George McGovern is near the end of his life, in hospice surrounded by his family but no longer able to respond. Democracy Now tonight is showing Steven Vittoria's great 2005 documentary "One Bright Shining Moment, the Forgotten Summer of George McGovern". The many valiant peace voices of his generation honor him and show in graphic pictures the terrible bloodshed and futility of the Vietnam war he worked so hard to bring to an end. We do not know what a leader like George McGovern and those who supported him could have done if we had elected him in 1972 instead of Nixon but I believe we would have a very different nation today. I only hope our young people will learn about this great man and those who believed that where men win glory is not in war but in "fighting" for human rights and a peaceful world.

(26,044 posts)...since, at the '72 convention, Carter was one of the leaders in the movement to change the delegate-allocation rules to deny McGovern the nomination he'd already clinched, because McGovern was "too liberal."

(22,974 posts)McGovern was nominated and got smeared in the general election by a fucking crook.
The nation rejected Carter and Mondale in favor of an imbecile stuffed shirt and even bigger fucking crook.
