Because of course she is. 👀
Justices must be hyper vigilant to make sure theyre not letting personal biases creep into their decisions, since judges are people, too, Barrett said at a lecture hosted by the University of Louisvilles McConnell Center.
Introduced by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell who founded the center and played a key role in pushing through her confirmation in the last days of the Trump administration, Barrett spoke at length about her desire for others to see the Supreme Court as nonpartisan.

So Texas and the like were not the plan all along? Right? Is the new definition of non partisan under his eye?
Meanwhile...
Can you have a non partisan theocracy!?!?! Heh.

She's got to be the most stupid, unqualified person to sit on that court in many decades. She has no fucking business there. But, I'm sure all y'all knew that already.

(34,105 posts)Isn't her husband the one who makes the decisions for her? I recall a discussion about how her specific little cult works and that is exactly what she said. She is under his eye and she is putting us right there with her. Only difference is she approves of the men being in charge, we do not. She is an Aunt Lydia.

(34,105 posts)but the book is exceptional. If you love to read I think you might enjoy it. Her writing is lovely, descriptive but not overblown at all.
Every one of the books she has written have become books to re-read. There is a nice trilogy that is really good.
I think, just from the little I know you from years here on DU, that you would probably like her work, especially if you like to read or listen to audiobooks.

(34,105 posts)I have not seen the last season, waiting until I am less likely to throw things (perhaps I may not ever see it). I think the first two seasons were very well done.
Funny tidbit about when I read the book. We were on our last evening on a short vacation and I got brutally sick with one of the worst colds I have ever had. Before dinner I was laying in bed reading this book and my husband had fallen asleep when on the TV came Crossfire with Jon Stewart. The infamous episode. Just something I remember and these days I have to remind myself now and again to remember them. Getting old sucks!

(1,668 posts)It does seem a little hyperbolic, but I'm curious to know why. From my perspective I'm torn between a witch hunt (overused and rendered non-sensical by conservatives and TFG) and instituting a Stasi like regimen to make sure some parts of the population adhere to proper doctrine.
WhiskeyGrinder
(22,327 posts)people have been living this reality for decades on this continent, and saying that NOW it's "The Handmaid's Tale" says "we care now because a lot more cishet white women are affected." THT is a white-centered book in itself, which reinforces that none of these issues are important until they affect white-middle class women (who, incidentally, are some of the new law's strongest supporters). We don't need to embrace that cruel reality to be effective against these laws.

(1,668 posts)The vigilante aspect of it disturbed me quite a bit. It reminded me of the private slave bounty hunters in pre-civil war era, a way to make money and be a vindictive prick at the same time. It does seem like the perfect GOP response.

The Dancing Supremes have been considered a partisan junta for the filthy rich ever since they voted in W. They came right out and told us votes do Not count.
Now they are just playing around with the details of how unimportant we really are to them.
The constitution never gave the supremes the power to determine constitutionality of laws. They gave themselves that power and are now using it to blugeon the citizenry into submission.

(1,668 posts)Partisan == Democrat or Liberal
By definition conservatives are not partisan. Therefor those hard right GOP justices are not partisan, it's all the rest of them. When Democrats or liberals think the hard right GOP justices are partisan it's because the Democrats and liberals are the real partisans.
Please note: delivered at a partisan facility, at the request of probably the most extreme partisan senate leader in over a century, to a partisan crowd. She wasn't trying to convince us, she was re-affirming the hard right GOP world view. We're just a bunch of dirty Democrat liberals.
