Here's an article that suggests that you are most at risk for getting Covid from a member of your own household:

(24,980 posts)Son got infected by stupid non-masking ass (back when it was still mandatory to wear masks) at work, brought it home to us, all of us got sick. Ass at work got it from her husband, and so it spreads.

It would be useful information to have. People think they are most at risk to catch Covid when they leave the home. Maybe that perception is wrong.

(96,043 posts)Someone in the household must first be infected from source beyond the home.

(7,611 posts)Can bring it in from outside but the close personal contact at home ensures a greater spread.
The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)Infection from a public source is necessary for there to be any infection within a household.
That is the link which must be broken.

(96,043 posts)We are now in our second 'in home' isolation.
The first was when I was exposed some months ago while visiting a friend, and now my oldest grand-daughter was exposed in class.
Bedroom door stays shut, fan blows out the window, mask is worn when out of the room. No positive test so far in either instance, and we will be going back to normal in another day or two, again.
In both instances no spread within the household would have been possible without contact outside the household. It spreads, so to speak, node to node, and this is hardly news --- it's been obvious from the start. That's the point of minimizing contact, of public masking, and of vaccination.

The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)And it is certainly not a measure you are going to be able to secure wide practice of in the absence of known exposure. The effective isolation behind a closed bedroom door seems sufficient.
The household has all had vaccinations, and we have employed home testing to ascertain when an 'all clear' can be declared.

(36,097 posts)The COVID spreads like a firecracker. A person is infected outside of the household and brings it into the group of co-isolates and there's a 'report' of infections where protocols are relaxed.

(4,671 posts)Among our three households of 1,2,and 3 - we have a vulnerable child! And we only allowed persons into our home that we trusted had followed the recommendations to avoid infection as often as possible and had been vaccinated at the earliest opportunity - we designated an outside-the-home runner for essentials who would always use best social distancing protocols and was usually those who provided a paycheck - masked, washed hands, changed clothing, did not enter crowded indoor, even outdoor areas, monitored who entered the vehicle they used; we quickly kissed on cheeks, not lips/face to face, or tapped elbows. DH was designated in this household of 2 - did we isolate on retiring at night to sleep, read, or view TV - if anything closer hadn't happened in years , there was little likelihood that would suddenly change- so nope!

(7,611 posts)Particularly if you have kids under 12.
Shouldn't we be posting pictures of unmasked families with kids and predict that they will end up on ventilators?

(23,896 posts)You are less likely to get sick from an errant gust of contaminated breath than you are from a prolonged exposure that transfers a larger viral load.
I reckon you are most likely to have a prolonged exposure from someone in your household.

(72,474 posts)i remember reading in china that even people who were masked at home spread it during meal times.
but i dont see the point here. no outside source, no plague.
