Rudy Giuliani. From being a US Attorney to Mayor of New York City to a presidential candidate. From being hailed as Americanss Mayor. Only to come falling down in three decades. He threw it all away for what? He wanted notoriety and jumped in without reason with Trump. Now, he is a disgraceful person who is embracing the lies of Trump. He has embarrassed his own name and has no one to blame, but himself. As we put the 20 year anniversary of 9-11 behind us, he was making a speech at rightwing fund raiser spewing lies and wacky rhetoric. His place in history will read of a pathetic weasel and embarrassing menace of our country and democracy. I do feel sorry for him in a way, nevertheless its how he chose to handle his legacy and he must live with his decisions.

(815 posts)He was warned not to set up the emergency command center in WTC 7 because the WTC had already been a target in 1993. He did it anyway. He was in the street because he had to abandon the ECC on 9/11. He didn't give the firemen the radios they needed etc. Read Wayne Barrett.
But on 9/11 the American people needed leadership. The Media built up his image because the American people needed shoring up that day and afterwards. Bush was flying around and going into bunkers. Cheney was out of sight. He was all they could find.
For years afterwards he tried to embellish his image by USING 9/11 to intimate what a great leader he had been. ha.

(51,974 posts)Shrub was completely incompetent. Running around like he was more concerned about his own safety than about being there for his country when it needed a leader most. Absent for days in a crisis. Ridiculous.
When he finally did get there all he did was make a lame speech with a bullhorn standing on rubble, asking emergency workers to take a break to listen to him while people were dying underneath.
Then the right-wing noise machine kicked in an insisted that whatever shrub did, it was brilliant leadership. The media ate it up, all evidence to the contrary, because it was the narrative they wanted to run with. Pure bs, pure spin.
Rudy, at least, passed mayor 101 with minim as l competence. He did exactly what any politician should do in a crisis. He held press conferences with the experts who had the facts on the ground and he served as master of ceremonies.
He said we'd get through this together and here are the experts who are working hard on it. Every question he was asked, he'd just say oh, the expert on that is such and so, and that person came up to the podium and answered the question.
Nothing brilliant, just basic duh for a politician.
The irony is that had Donnie done this regarding COVID, he's still be president right now. Instead he sided with the virus.

(3,017 posts)I believe he thought through his management of COVID he would win because it would kill more Democratic voters in the urban centers. They are a death cult.
