I'd really prefer it if law enforcement moved the fence to the perimeter of Washington, DC to keep the rifraff out and allowed DC residents to continue to enjoy the Capitol grounds and other beautiful and historic parts of the city unimpeded.

but I moved into a place with great security where I live. Far too many nut cases wandering around anymore. I've always been very open to people and still am, but after watching all of the crazies voting for Trump and then some of the lunacy I've witnessed, and then 1/6, I decided I had better be just a bit more cautious. All it takes is one wacko to do you in for no reason at all and with absolutely no provocation.

And that goes for certain idiot politicians who are sent here from all around the country, act a fool and then go back home - whereupon people say, "Why is WASHINGTON so screwed up?"

WASHINGTON isn't screwed up at all. The people sent there from the "heartland of America" are the ones screwing things up. So stop blaming "Washington."

So I guess I’d be “riff-raff” and not allowed in to the seat of my government because I live elsewhere? Well, hell.

After you go through a magnetometer, have a valid reason to be here, and otherwise prove you're not here to cause any harm - just like Washington residents need to do to get anywhere near their Capitol and many of their workplaces in their own backyard every day when these fences are up.

Then, once you're admitted inside, you can move around as freely as you like.

I think it's a fine plan.

Nobody questioned me or asked why I was there.

I even watched Lester Holt broadcasting from the Lincoln Memorial. We were all quite close.

They’d have quite a job just weeding out bad guys from all the homeless I saw. Have you seen the encampment kitty-cornered across from Union Station?

But I did have some nice conversations with the NG and cops around. I really disliked seeing those fences. Almost obscene to see them there.

I even had the misfortune of running into that horrid Greene woman. Near an escalator in the Metro.

Before the insurrection, residents (and others) could walk right up to the Capitol steps, take a morning jog through the plaza, eat lunch on the lawn, stroll with their dogs in the evening. Now, because of these obnoxious criminals (rifraff was being polite), that area is blocked off like the Berlin Wall. It's disgusting and heartbreaking. DC residents didn't cause this and don't deserve it.

So, I'm all for doing what needs to be done to return the city to its people - that and letting them actually have a say over who gets to work in the Capitol building.
