"Corporations are people, my friend"
"I like being able to fire people who provide services to me."
"I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there."
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. ... My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
"We have a potentially volatile situation but we sort of live with it, and we kick the ball down the field and hope that ultimately, somehow, something will happen and resolve it."
"He [Obama] says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people."
"I have some friends who are NASCAR team owners."
"I'm running for office for Pete's sake, we can't have illegals"
"I'll tell you what, ten-thousand bucks? $10,000 bet?"
Why is this even close? Are the citizens of this Country really ready to hand the reigns over to corporations for the next four years? After the mess we found ourselves in in 2008? Did we not learn a single thing? I am simply astounded at where this race is right now. It defies all logic.

(5,465 posts)So it is, so it has ever been. I recently watched a PBS documentary on Standing Bear, a Native American Chief of the Ponca tribe which originated in the Dakotas. It served to remind me that the history of this world, the history of this country, and the history of the here and now is all within the control of the rich and powerful white men of this world. It made me sad to learn of Standing Bear and his life, and it reinforced, to me, what I say to you now. And so it ever will be in my lifetime, at least
It was George Santanaya who wrote, in part: " ...Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
