(56,371 posts)... to lose.
The only reason I give W any regard at all is because Michelle Obama seems to find something endearing about him.

(101,730 posts)credit a good speech when it is given and his delivery was good as well--for Bush*
. Hell, even Hitler gave good speeches, if that is what you need to be able to acknowledge (and feel as though it doesn't mean you agree with the speech-giver).

(28,057 posts)Had Biden, Obama, or Clinton said it the Trumpers and too much of the media would have been whining that they had made the anniversary "political".

(182,283 posts)Yeah everyone knew part of what W was saying was about Trump but he openly identified himself. He just cant shut the hell up and let things pass.
Remember, it was a conversation with Pelosi that lead to his first impeachment. By all accounts Nancy didnt really say anything but Trump convinced himself he could put it away (and Nancy would go along) if he released the notes in the phone call. BOOM. He provided the basis for the impeachment. Moron.

(182,283 posts)Yes W mentioned national symbols but I take his statement to be on all right wing white supremacy elements. He still gets briefings Im sure. Not at the same level of course but law enforcement knows exactly what they are dealing with. A few people with the right equipment can be devastating. Possibly overrun a small police force or even take over state capital grounds.
Virginia had several marches here around our Capital Square. I saw mostly poseurs but just a few of them with th element of surprise could create a horrible situation. Yes theyd be contained but you could have a really nasty situation with rules of engagement dealing with them as civilians.

(5,625 posts)I remember some of them blaming President Clinton for 9/11, even though Clinton had been out of office for almost 8 months at that time.

(63,221 posts)I don't even remember what was so awful about Bush except for the Iraq war because Trump has completely eclipsed his awfulness.
I so fucking hate that guy with a passion. And what the fuck is wrong with his eyes? He looks like a lizard with Down's Syndrome. He is such a repulsive, disgusting looking toadstool.

(11,949 posts)They care. The percentage of registered republicans continues to plummet. I work with a good many of them roughly my age, mid 50s to early 60s, not really religious and they have been hoping that the trump and evangelical hold on their party will go away. Few voted for Trump but straight Republican down ticket.
This will bother them. A good bit. They still identify with the Bush style Republican.
They know a party of nothing but evangelicals cant govern America and want no part of it.
Its funny, besides knowing Im an ex-Republican now a social Democratic liberal I never talk politics at work. They only know that because we have all worked together for over 25 years. But they always vent about to politics with me. Its curious.
