I was so impressed not one child complained about the mask. I did tell them they were lucky to return to school instead of remote. Some told me that they witnessed their older siblings struggle with remote learning.
I dont get these anti maskers. Children can be so resilient. They can literally roll with the punches. Its the adults who are such babies.

(202,970 posts)And that included the child sitting right in front of me, a boy who couldn't have been older than 5. I was impressed at how good he was during a long funeral mass. He was obviously used to wearing a mask, looked to me like his Mom (he was there with his masked parents) had made smaller masks for him. And I've seen even the youngest kids get off the school buses here still wearing their masks. They are mandated here in all schools and school buses. As long as everyone's wearing one, kids see it as "normal.

(15,952 posts)I've seen them in stores, and of course, they're all over the internet.
They are some really cute ones out there, too, with cartoon characters, superheroes, dinosaurs, puppies and kittens, you name it. Stuff kids could have a lot of fun with.

(9,528 posts)Same with kids who may be self conscious over missing front teeth, I supposed. And many of the masks for kids are actually cute with fun colors and cartoon characters -- we all used to wear masks at Halloween and thought it was fun.

(27,759 posts)They all wear their masks, and socially distance at meal time. No problem.
Some parents (potential clients) came by today and that was one of the first things the dad noticed. He works as an airline mechanic and he told us that when families are trying to fly unmasked, it's because of the parents (he actually blamed the dads, but it's probably equal opportunity).
I don't know how the parents have become so unhinged, I really don't.

The other day I was loading groceries in my car and I heard a mom in the parking spot next to me say to her kids Are we ready with safety gear? Her kids yelled Yea! She said why do we wear masks? They said Because we love each other. Parenting done right.

(2,680 posts)having to wear a mask makes kids afraid and have psychological problems.
No, having parents who believe that and have a fit every time they see someone wearing a mask, especially in the schools, is likely to cause kids to be afraid and maybe even have psychological problems. It's catching.

(8,935 posts)Im in a social psychology class, so a lot of our discussion and assignments necessarily revolve around Covid these days.
The effects of masks on child development has been a line of inquiry in psychological circles. Just one example:
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-baby-scientist/202101/face-masks-and-children-s-emotion-understanding
Its an older article, but a pretty interesting read
Theres a more recent article about early development, where social isolation is having an effect. I dont have time to go find it (about to go to class, oddly enough), but I saw it widely distributed around right-leaning sites when it first came out.
Could be where your sons are drawing their information.
TLDR - masks are fine in schools. By then, children are developed enough to read expressions and social cues without seeing a full face.

(7,263 posts)And I am in a 'good' area of SW PA.
Anecdotal observation, seems that only about 10% of the folks in the local grocery stores are still masked here, down from 70% a few months ago. Last stats I saw are saying that around 50% of peeps in my area are vaxxed.
The kids at the bus stop in the morning - 50% have masks. The school district does require masks, so must be putting them on on the bus, if the drivers are complaint.
The bus garage is up the street, we see dozens of buses pass the house every day, only about a third of the drivers are masked.
And just returned from vacation in the Dakotas - very very few children were wearing masks. Very very few people were masked. We got lots of stink eyed looks while there because we masked all the time when out in public. Some of the touristy towns are begging people to move there and work there, help wanted signs everywhere - good luck with that.
Glad to hear the younger kids are not complaining, but still a large % of the parents, even in a 'blue' area', are monsters.

All last year I didn't lose my voice, get a sinus infection, Bronchitis or Pneumonia. As a Music Teacher I would be OK with masks all the time if it meant no upper respiratory issues!

I have NEVER heard a kid complain about wearing a mask.
I have never had a kid be defiant when I point to my nose to remind them to pull the mask up.
It's.The.Parents! 100% of the problem lies there.
