The primary mission of the United States Capitol Police is to "Protect and Secure Congress". I think we all can agree that they failed miserably in this mission on January 6th of this year.
That leads us to this coming Saturday and the absolute requirement that the USCP not screw it up this time. We don't want to hear them say they were surprised by the size, scope and ferocity of the White Ring Thugs who are about to descend on the nation's capitol. This time they must have all hands on deck, they must be in riot gear, they must have the National Guard there backing them up and most of all they must treat this with the intensity and urgency it deserves.
I would ask that these officers pretend that they're up against Black Lives Matter or Antifa and that they deal with the White Ring Thugs the same way they would BLM or Antifa!
I think most of us know that if it were BLM-Antifa that had stormed the U.S. Congress last January they would have never made the summit of those steps! They would have been met with an army of night stick wielding cops who would have beaten them senseless.
Therefore, I am asking the USCP to "BRING IT" full force this coming Saturday!!!

(182,580 posts)Sounds like the preemptive rigged election BS or possibly a way to explain if this isnt as big as expected. Either way DC better be ready. There are going to be people out to make their legend like Jan. 6th or Charlottesville.

(8,037 posts)Not a single member of Congress was killed or physically harmed, despite the police available being overwhelmed to the point where several were killed, either on the spot or within days of the attempted coup.
The failure--and it was massive--was in the Executive Branch--namely the president and his cronies--who fomented the insurrection and then saw to it that the forces available were inadequate. This was compounded perhaps by the leadership of the CP, who didn't take seriously the warnings about the impending coup attempt, but I certainly don't blame the rank and file police on the ground that day.
We should remember that it could have been much worse. We came damn close--too close--to seeing the murder of Democratic Congress people and their staff, the lynching of the Vice President, and possibly a hostage situation.
I agree though, anything close to this by BLM would have been met with massive force, most especially the National Guard. But it was TFG and his stooges who spent hours delaying the response on January 6th--one of many reasons why Republicans are so desperate to stifle any investigation.

Personally, I'd like them to stop the violence from starting.

(8,317 posts)Protect the Congress its Members, employees, visitors, and facilities so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.
On 1/6, they were able to protect the Members, the Staff and the invited Visitors, where they failed was in the protection of the Facilities. While failing in the protection of the facilities, one needs to remember the Capitol consists of of more than 18.4 million square feet of facilities, 570 acres of grounds. The crown jewel of that space is the Capitol. Clearly, what happened on 1/6 was not their finest hour, they did in fact fail in part of their mission, but if not for many heroic actions it could have been the catastrophic failure you see it to be.
I will totally agree that if it was BLM there would have been a different story as Executive Agency assets would have been available like the National Guard, but when the President sent his goon squad, he also made sure that there was no help. That said, last summer when BLM was on Capitol Grounds, there was no tear gas, no beat down, no attack but the cops or the protesters. They were there to exercise their first amendment rights and were treated as such.
