We can't sustain as a functioning society.

In fact, we are NOT a functioning society.

I hope she's unemployed for a long, long time.

Last Friday, Pres. Biden said companies with 100+ employees have to require vaccines. So exactly where will the jobs be? My daughter works for a company that required masks since July if you were away from your desk and weekly testing if you aren't vaccinated. And now have a deadline to vax or resign. it is a good company to work for, with good benefits.

How pigheaded does someone have to be to put so much on the line? And to your comment about education-is it possible that some people are getting a reverse education? Like going to class normal and coming out more stupid, more selfish, more narrow-minded?

I've always wondered if the surge in home schooling over the past couple of decades has contributed to the decline in quality education. Parents who objected to anything being taught in public school could pull their kids out and keep them from being exposed to it. Such as: Evolution, sex education, history (especially American), science, etc. Add some prayer and religion back... Ah yes, that's better! Except it wasn't.

Families who want their kids to go on to careers will make sure their children have the basics plus, and often drive their kids harder to excel, no matter how they get educated. Other families don't care if their kids can feed themeselves, and select curricula that develops their kids to a certain point.

I have mixed feelings. As far as I'm concerned, actual education in public school is fit in around learning social hierarachy. Kids with brains find their path on their own. If teachers happen to notice a glow in the classroom, they kindly offer guidance. I loved my public school education and I loved what my parents taught me as I grew up. No matter that I knew dates, or could defrost a refriderator, my teachers and my parents awoke a desire in me to learn, which doesn't stop. There are going to be parents who resentfully home school so their kids don't learn about their pee-pees, or racial inequality, or science and evolution, and many of the kids will be fine with it. But there are gems, and they will wink and sparkle and learn what they want and do great things.

In the meantine, we are seeing too many stories of the lumps of coal that the fire of education missed. We had them in public school, and we have them in private or home-schooling.
