(102,229 posts)How anyone could think requiring only 12% of those voting in the specific election contest for the position in question--not 12% of registered voters--is rational, needs to take the ice pick out of their frontal lobe (or drive it all the way through).

If Governor Newsome gets 49% of the vote (by virtue of "keep" votes in the recall), an opponent with a smaller plurality should not replace him.
In essence, the recall should be a clean slate election. The sitting officer should be eligible to win on the same terms as the opposition.
