What's up with the NY Post? It used to be a sane paper a long time ago when I lived in NYC...

My RW neighbor keeps quoting outlandish, far right nonsense from that paper on Facebook. He seems to have no other source. He's in full roar this morning. He has this "thing" with Hunter Biden but lately it's just about the Afghanistan situation. I'm sure there were some real problems with the pull out and I"m equally sure that Biden considered all the downsides before making his decision to pull out. But this guy thinks Biden is a liar and acts in bad faith with the American public.

...I'm old enough to remember the liberal post, when James Wechsler was editor. Pete Hamill wrote for it, maybe the greatest journalist, at least in NYC, in my lifetime. But that was long, long ago...

It scares me that our neighbor is so caught up in that newspaper's story.

He also claims to have "seen" the actual footage of votes being changed in the follow up of the last election, cheating on the recount, that was investigated thoroughly and proved there was no cheat.

It scares me that he lives in this hellish political "world."

He is really a nice guy, always offering to help us during snow storms and other calamities that we all dread.

Bought it in 1976 and has driven it rightward ever since.

Later, team Reagan did all Rupert wanted as far as deregulating media ownership, including restrictions on owning newspapers, TV and radio in one market that had ensured a variety of viewpoints in the public sphere.

Now, it’s a race to the bottom…

for college and Mount St. Michael for high School in the Bronx. We lived in the New York area for almost 20 years...it was always a right-wing rag and Murdoch owns it now so it is likely worse.

In the mid-20th century, the paper was owned by Dorothy Schiff, who developed its tabloid format. In 1976, Rupert Murdoch bought the Post for US$30.5 million. Since 1993, the Post has been owned by Murdoch's News Corp.

many changes since then. Most of the time it's been pretty liberal. Dorothy Schiff bought it in 1939 and made sure it stayed liberal until she sold it to Murdoch in 1976.

There was even a TV series loosely based on her tenure there.

I still read it since it gives you a sense of what's going on in NyC, better than the Times. And for some reason I enjoy reading gossip about people I have never heard of.

The very funny Arch Buchwald.
