If Newsom Is Recalled after Today's Election in California,

it will be because Democratic voters did not bother to vote. I'm pretty sure the recall will fail, but that's not a certainty.

If the recall vote removes Newson, it should be a massive wake-up call for the Democratic Party. Historically in the 21st century, Democrats have failed to turn out in many off-year and special elections, thus allowing Republicans to take over elected offices. That's especially true in local and state elections, but the same has occurred even in congressional elections in non-presidential election years.

We must do better with getting out the vote for EVERY election. If we do not, we will soon find ourselves unable to vote at all. The right wing of the Republican Party has exactly that outcome in mind.

So, don't just assume that enough Democrats will show up and vote. They might not. They often have not, in enough numbers to win.

We must do better!

It's how a minority party has taken over vast swaths of our country.

that Republicans have the most power but do the least real work for the country. They seem to have endless financial resources, time, and energy to stir the pot for their base 24-7-365 on Fox News and countless AM Radio outlets all over the country, meanwhile working class people are too busy slaving away for the corporate best desperate to survive and are only partially aware of what's going on at any given amount of time and don't always get to the polls like the Republican base. I wish we could figure out a way to address this.

We cannot make it much easier to vote. I think the governor will be kept by a huge percentage.

I lived most of my life in California. From the age of 3 months to the age of 59, my home was there. Then, I moved to Minnesota almost 18 years ago. As an adult and teenager, I was active in Democratic politics in that state as well.

My sense is that Democrats will vote in enough numbers to kill the recall. However, nothing is as it seems sometimes. We shall see. I remain hopeful.

And I heard at least twice as many Dems have mailed in ballots compared to Republicans so far.

Really comes down to how many people vote in person today.

Lack of trust in mail in ballots. The problem will be if they're reminded to come vote today; hopefully they are still date-lagged from summer and the late Labor Day we had this month.
Much easier to mail the ballot in or drop it off.

when every registered voter in the state received a mail-in ballot, that one can't be bothered to take 2 seconds to fill out and sign your ballot then either put in the mail (postage paid) or go to your local drop box and deposit.
