Tucker Carlson said he lies on TV out of 'weakness' and when he gets 'really cornered'

Carlson made the comment on September 12 while speaking to conservative show host Dave Rubin on an episode of the "The Rubin Report." In the episode, Rubin questioned how CNN anchors Chris Cuomo and Brian Stelter live with themselves "when they just lie again and again and we have the internet to expose the lies."

In response, Carlson told Rubin what he does to get out of a tight spot.

"I mean, I lie if I'm really cornered or something," Carlson said. "I lie. I really try not to. I try never to lie on TV. I just don't - I don't like lying. I certainly do it, you know, out of weakness or whatever."

But, Carlson went on to claim, there's a difference between what he does and what happens on CNN. Carlson said CNN hosts lie "systematically" to protect powerful people like billionaires Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates.

He ... HAS ... to look like he knows what he's talking about at all times.

People should go after that guys knowledge authority to take away his esteem

He’s on some CNN shows but his main show is on in the middle of the day on Saturday I think. Literally no one is watching.

He's rarely challenged, let alone "cornered" on his Fox News show. Does he do another version elsewhere? Also, his stint on Crossfire has long since ended.

I've been listening to a podcast which is basically all about debunking various statements on his show (Tuckered Out Podcast- highly recommended) and he usually only brings on guests that are there because he wants somebody to add some patina of "credibility" to his talking points, although, sometimes, embarrassingly, they don't quite always stick to the line that he's expecting them to or they add context that undermines what he is trying to prove, although he usually just breezes past any such contradictions and moves on. His main schtick really seems to be wildly exaggerating things that aren't extraordinary and/or leaving out crucial context that drastically changes the perception of whatever it is he's talking about.

Of course you don't. But it's also interesting that the lying you so deplore in others is qualitatively different from the lying you do. Because you've never lied to protect powerful people, have you Tuckums?
