What specifically will Larry Elder do to "bring back the California Dream"? What is the "California dream"? There is nothing to the message except emotion. Vote for Elder and he will come back to Dodger Stadium? So?
I grew up playing sports and watching sports. There are some athletes I admire for their talents and skills, but very very few that I ever listen to about their political views or ethics. Why? Because they are just baseball players. They are just boxers. They are just Basketball players.
If I agree with their views, then I will examine them for accuracy. If I disagree, I will still examine for accuracy, but likely dismiss in the category of "who cares what this former/current/etc... player thinks.
While I like sports, I have never understood the connection (other than nostalgia) that people form with a team or with players. I would say the same thing about celebrities and artists. I think that Prince is a musical genius, but I really didn't ever listen to him about politics, religion, etc....
Piazza taking up for Elder only serves to diminish him as a person in my eyes. Not disappointed at all. Just didn't really ever care much and now I care even less what he has to say.

(1,603 posts)When he made this video. He certainly was during much of his MLB career.

(1,962 posts)Surprised he can spell a word as difficult as "yes".
But surprised of him being in favor of the recall? Of course not. He's an asshole, a cheater, a steroid abuser, a terrible teammate, a liar, and a spineless jerk who blamed Vin Scully for all the problems he created himself in Los Angeles. Ohhh, and this also isn't the first time he's made it clear he's a right-wing jackass.
I'm a Dodgers fan, not a Mets fan. But I can tell you when the Dodgers shipped him off for his one week stay in Florida, my thought was "Good riddance!"
That said, as far as I know, he doesn't live in California anymore. If so, he might want to shut the fuck up and stay in his lane.
