(4,514 posts)And the ones walking off jobs looking for a big payday in the future after winning lawsuits over mandates will find themselves in that situation shortly. If lawyers thought there was any money to be made on their cases the advertising would be EVERYWHERE.

(7,510 posts)We are also saving a lot on health care costs since elective procedures are being canceled.
The health care system has a large fixed cost and a relatively fixed capacity. There's some incremental capacity and costs associated with Covid, but it is probably a reasonably small percentage of the whole.
I haven't seen a full accounting with all the pluses and minuses added up, but I'd bet that it is not much worse than break even, since Covid has reduced life expectancy by a year or two. That's a big savings.

Using data from both the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service as well as health care studies, the report's authors found that each of the 287,000 "preventable" COVID-19 hospitalizations in the last three months cost around $20,000. When multiplied together, the two numbers amount to the $5.7 billion figure.
The analysis deems "preventable" hospitalizations to be "hospitalizations of unvaccinated adults for COVID-19 treatment primarily, while accounting for any post-vaccination infections that would have been expected if this population had been vaccinated," per CNN. The authors believe $5.7 billion to likely be "a conservative estimate of costs."
The study also "did not account for outpatient care costs, and some data indicates inpatient health care costs for Covid-19 treatment may be higher than the $20,000 figure used," per CNN.

Delta's chief health officer, Henry Ting, said the figure represents "a huge number in terms of shifting that group that's most reluctant," during a media briefing held last week by the Infectious Diseases Society of America, according to Insider.
Ting said that out of Delta's 20,000 unvaccinated workers, around one-fifth have gotten the shot in the past two weeks. The rising vaccination rates come after the company said that unvaccinated employees enrolled in Delta's health care plan will face a $200 monthly surcharge beginning in November.
When the extra fee was first announced on August 25, roughly 74 percent of Delta's 80,000 employees were vaccinated. Now, Delta's vaccination rate has climbed to 78 percent, Insider reported.
