I saw Elena Kagan speak today. I liked what I heard

She came to UTK and gave a short speech. It was very interesting. One thing that stuck out to me was that when she was asked about professional responsibly off the bench she stressed the importance of giving back to the community since lawyers often live better compared to a lot of people in this country. She said it was important to give back to society in whatever you can throughout your career. A good view to have, I think. Though one thing that I did not like was the fact that she was the Solicitor General who defended Citizens United. Of course that doesn't mean she personally think it's a good law and she was just doing her job, but still it slightly annoyed me. Oh and her favorite movie is the Avengers.

She is a great person from what I hear and makes time for others!!!!

2. I was surprised at how down to earth she was.

She didn't speak or act like she thought she was better than anyone else. She didn't seem worried about impressing people. When asked what her favorite music was she said she listens to top 40 stations when she drives into work. The girl who asked her that had apparently talked to her before and asked her what her favorite movie was, but said she didn't want to embarrass Kagan by telling everyone. Kagan just laughed and said Avengers and said there isn't a comic book movie she hasn't seen. I thought that was a neat thing about her. She seemed very much like a normal person.
