CA, TX, FL, NY, IL, PA, OH, NC, GA... And LA County is just a bit bigger than MI.

Whereas all of Butte County has the population of the city of Tacoma, WA. And the other ones are even smaller... in an overall context of 1/8 of the US population.

They are notorious for being the last to report. Right now at the Registrar's office three people are working feverishly counting the votes. Ballots from outlying precincts won't arrive until 11 or 12:00.

I chose Tacoma as the comparison only because it was literally the closest in population to Butte Co. on the list of city populations that I googled. The two cities above and below on the list I did quickly consider instead, they were: San Bernardino CA (which could have been confusing b/c the county of the same name is huuuuuge) and Modesto CA (which by my intuition/guess seemed less well known to people from all over, even if my personal experiences are the opposite).
