Many people have asked what is the Churchs stance on vaccinations and vaccination mandates. Many have asked if we provide exemption letters.
I find it weird that religious exemptions are an accepted thing in general, seems like it would be best to leave public health policy to the most knowledgable, not religious leadership. But if Churches must take a position on the issue
I am happy to announce that we are offering Official letters for those Pastafarians who would like to be exempt from working in proximity to the unvaxxed.
The unvaccinated may emit harmful virus particles which are forbidden to devout Pastafarians, therefore we expect all reasonable measures to be taken to help us avoid these virus particles. Please respect our religious liberty.

(25,851 posts)I think the only religion that actually opposes any kind of medical care, including vaccines, is Christian Science.
And the best thing you can do is read "God's Perfect Child" by Caroline Fraser, the second best book I have ever read. (The first best book is "Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder" likewise by Caroline Fraser.)
Fraser is not at all prolific, but I wish she were. Those two books are incredible and I'd recommend both to anyone capable of reading.

(34,136 posts)I don't understand only reading the subject line and not the message, then writing a rant about it. Oh, well, I've only been reading online forums for thirty years or so, you'd think I'd learn.

(23,537 posts)usually get transfusions or even grant temporary custody of their child to the state while transfusions happen.
We would be more screwed if the Pope wasn't pushing for everyone to get vaxxed.

(34,136 posts)Only times I have to go anywhere is to the doctors offices, or shopping - and my husband does most of the shopping. So I can avoid the unvaccinated easily.

(205,237 posts)And we did have good leadership during most of this pandemic, mask mandates to enter any store or business and a quarantine for anyone coming in from out-of-state. But the mask mandate for the vaccinated was rescinded at the beginning of July - just in time for "tourist season" here - and it's now "the honor system" according to the signs I've read. Good luck with that. And everything was open with a vengeance this summer - last year everything was closed down.
There are mask mandates in all the schools for both in-school and on school buses, but there have already been reported cases causing quarantines in 3 school districts and school just started here last Thursday. So much for all the progress we made. At least anyone who works at the local hospital - and there are Covid cases there, 81 deaths since May 2020 - must be vaccinated by the end of this month. Better late than never. I have 2 friends who work there and they both were able to get vaccinated last January. Too many are acting as if the pandemic is over.

(34,136 posts)And waiting for an operation that cannot be scheduled since the hospital is so overloaded they are not doing any surgeries right now.
My major social event is a needlework group which hasn't met in person for over a year now. They had their first face to face meeting Saturday but I decided to stay home so I don't get any exposure just in case my surgery can be scheduled eventually. At least most of the people I see at the stores are still masking, no matter what DeSantis says.

(205,237 posts)I know a lovely retired lady who spends her winters in Florida. A lot of Northerners do. Last year I tried to talk her out of going and she said she'll be going back this year. This summer I started seeing lots of out-of-state license plates again, and the majority are from Florida.
And I'm the same, I still wear my mask, though I've been vaccinated since March. In the beginning, an employee on a local store saw my vaccinated sticker on my jacket and said I no longer had to wear my mask - but I still do, though it's usually just me and a few employees, though I have seen a few more just lately. I only go places that I have to and don't spend time there. I do all my errands on one day.
I used to go to a meditation group once a week, a really lovely group of ladies, mostly older than me and politically active. But we haven't met since February of last year since we meet in the artist's studio of one of the group and it's not very spacious. I have wondered if we'll ever meet again. So many things have shut down here.
And I am so sorry about your surgery, that really sucks. I hope that you're feeling okay.

(34,136 posts)My sister really wants to go to NY state to see the leaves turn, and to visit the family homestead in Genoa (western NY). But between my parents' deaths and now Covid she has not been able to. Maybe next year - but she's getting tired of saying that.
The surgery is not an emergency and just to fix a problem created by an earlier surgery which is unsightly, but not painful. If put off too long it could possibly become a problem so I was hoping to get it taken care of sooner than later. Thanks!
