Newsom showed Dems how to win the mid terms. Legislate and tie Republicans to Trump.

Just keep hammering on it. Republicans are into Trump so deeply they can't back out now. If there is a solid record of accomplishment and Dems are motivated to turn out Republicans cannot win, no matter how much they gerrymander and try to suppress votes.

The Republicans are making some big mistakes with continuing to tie themselves to the Trump anchor and with the extreme policies they're enacting in Texas.

2022 is going to be about Trump and about how if Dems don't turn out nationwide the GOP will turn their state into Handmaid's Tale Texas.

It's important because as we get closer I predict we'll hear more, "We can't just run on Trump" a la 2020. It will be amplified by pundits angling for a horse race. We need to ignore that for the suppressive nonsense it is and keep hammering them. The Newsom recall is a perfect example of how wrongheaded that is. That race was closer until Elder was front and center. The GOP have made it clear they're all in with the death cult, and voters have made it clear they reject it soundly. We would be fools to ignore that.

Perry Bacon had a good summation (Op-ed at WAPO) of how Newsom managed the campaign successfully leaving a marker for what can work equally well in the midterms. Newsom concentrated on the extreme demands of MAGAT supporters, the antidemocratic nature of the movement based on conspiracy theory and incoherent belief systems.

Bacon admits he was wrong about the soundness of the strategy: making the recall a choice, not a referendum. Elder, the opposition leader, was no doubt a gift with his full Trumpy approach. But the truth is that the entire Republican Party has embraced extremism because not doing so means a primary slaughter. Republicans have painted themselves into a box with their continued Trumpy support, so much so that even that slavish support is not enough. Qanon is on the rise with the Republican base--sheer lunacy. Watkins and his son must be laughing all the way to the bank but in the long-term that stance = electoral defeat.

Make the elections a choice: reason vs insanity, democracy vs fascism, our democratic Republic vs Gilead.

The choice is clear. We have a path!

The longer Donald John is out of office, the more the attraction fades and the revulsion comes to the surface.
