Ex-Infowars Star Sells Mysterious Gadget Dubbed the 'Cucks'

A mysterious new gadget called the Qux—pronounced "Cucks"—has taken the right-wing internet by storm and raised nearly $200K for the former Infowars reporter who created it. But does it actually do anything?

Yes, that’s how you pronounce “Qux.” No, no one knows what it does.

“I have no idea what this thing is,” co-host Asawin Suebsaeng says. “It’s just staring back at me like the abyss.”

Sommer and Suebsaeng tried to puzzle out what exactly the Qux—a slim box meant to connect to a TV—will do, with no help from its creators, who didn’t respond to requests for comment or technical specifications.

The brainchild of former Infowars reporter Millie Weaver, the Qux has succeeded in spite of or because of that lack of specificity, raising more than $170,000 on crowdfunding site Indiegogo with a promise to create electronic “portals” free from censorship. The Qux is coming, whether anyone involved knows what it is or not.

While giving a gadget aimed at Republicans a name pronounced “cucks” might seem unwise, given its history as a go-to insult during the 2016 presidential campaign, Qux co-creator Gavin Wince insists it was actually a genius marketing decision. The name, according to Wince, is meant to underscore that the true “cucks” are those who give their data to tech companies.

It’s a internet video streaming device. The back ports are from left to right: power, HDMI, RJ45, audio in, audio out.

It’s like your old or current cable box. It decodes video and audio to playback on your TV.

I have built these for Cisco, Scientific Atlanta, Nortel, Motorola, Intel, etc. for over 15 years. Nothing new here other than the new “tech” grift.

I’m not very savvy - so sorry if this is a dumb question, but if this box is a decoder - that leads me to ask… decode what from whom?

From the internet. The RJ45 port is for ether net and there maybe a Bluetooth radio inside the box. It behaves like a the original cable TV boxes. It’s a set top box.

Another example of decoding is a CD or DVD player. The info (ones or zeros) is stored on the media (the disc) and when play decodes the information into audio and video so we can watch and hear it.

And it's hard wired for security purposes; commie pinko liberals can't hack into the WiFi and spy.

They sell these at the Big Box stores for, like $19.95, but they basically give them away in the thrift stores. Hell, they even have them on the "As Seen on TV" shelf in my Podunk drugstore.

The rubes are just being trolled so blatantly by these scammers now.... a device that doesn't do anything and is called the "Qux"? Hilarious.

The name, according to Wince, is meant to underscore that the true “cucks” are those who give their data to tech companies.

Right... and not the people who buy boxes that do nothing from internet snake oil salesmen.
