General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am sick of people who pick up their cell phone, full of silicon chip technology,
semiconductors, Ethernet connections, Bluetooth capabilities, and Wi-Fi enabled to upload or download data through broadband fiber optic networks and send it to satellites in geosynchronous orbit above the earth that have been placed there by giant rockets, actual fucking rockets, so they can connect to a social media website that is powered by acres of computer servers processing terra gigs of data every second just so they can tweet about how they dont believe in science.
Had to get that off my chest.

(11,730 posts)Say, "I don't understand science and it scares me". Or, "I know that science, while not perfect, is the best method of arriving to understanding of our natural world, but I choose to accept superstition, emotional responses, and other much more fallible concepts as a basis for my world view".
At least we will know what we are dealing with.

(9,895 posts)Unless and until man rids itself of slavish devotion to fundamentalists of ANY and ALL religions, he will never attain his full potential as a species.
The way things look most days, we simply won't ever reach that point of critical mass when enough people stop pretending to believe in sky daddy and cease giving the premise undue deference. When someone can believe that "gawd" sacrificed himself to himself to allow forgiveness of an initial transgression tens of thousands of generations previous when a rib woman misled a clay man to eat from a forbidden tree's fruit of knowledge...well its alot easier to convince that same person that many other equally nutty propositions are just as likely "true"...
Humanity needs a MUCH BETTER BS detector, and religious deference and devotion prevent that from developing in the open and being a guard against insanity and inanity and the power mad who don't care either way.

(3,166 posts)If the vaccine is "fake" and the science is "fake" and the doctors are all in on it, why on earth would you trust them after you've come down with the virus? Wouldn't that mean that they have "won"?? I can't really wrap my head around anything that conservatives think. after watching supposedly religious people who love Jesus but worship Trump more.

And that ultra-bright OLED screen with saturated colors and sharp images with which they view those stupid anti-vax and anti-mask Minion memes? That front-facing camera with which they record all of their angry anti-vaccine and anti-mask Instagram Live rants in 1080p resolution?
ALL the result of scientific research.

(23,208 posts)It's called hypocrisy, and it's what the nutcases do. You can throw everything from genetics to comparative anatomy to molecular biology to organic chemistry at them, and they'll brush it all aside, and say they trust Jaysus and a book they claim Sky-daddy wrote (that says nothing on the subject) on the idea of evolution. Looking facts square in the eye and saying they're false (or their new favorite, "fake news" ) is what makes them repuglikans. If you could reason with them, they wouldn't be repuglikans. You can only educate them with dimensional lumber across the forehead, and sometimes that's just a waste of good lumber.

The new fleets of large numbers of cheap low earth orbit satellites being deployed now may be economic in the future.
