This is an effort to raise $200,000,000 for St. Judes hospitals. There is a great video documentary on Netflix that describes the effort and the participants. Very inspiring and interesting. This is a science advancement and much more that the joy ride by the billionaires last month.
I support the effort and will make a donation to the hospital.
We can watch the launch at spacex.com
There are no government funds involved.

All crewed spaceflight is risky. All.
This booster and this spacecraft had to pass NASA regs to be man-rated. Flacon 9 and Crew Dragon are indeed BASA man-rated.

(128,979 posts)and are contracted to NASA for that just like Grumman (now Northrup-Grumman) and Lockheed-Martin contracted with NASA in the '60s and '70s.
We need to get away from using Russian rockets to get our people up to ISS.
