BREAKING: The UK, Aus and the US have agreed a "landmark" partnership to boost their defences

This is to counter China. Live press conference with all 3 leaders just happened.

About time.

In a joint statement, Boris Johnson, Joe Biden of the United States and Australia's Scott Morrison said: "The endeavour we launch today will help sustain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

"For more than 70 years, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, have worked together, along with other important allies and partners, to protect our shared values and promote security and prosperity. Today, with the formation of AUKUS, we recommit ourselves to this vision."

The PM said the three nations were "natural allies" and "while we may be separated geographically, our interests and values are shared".

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the UK, Australia and US have opened a "new chapter in our friendship", adding that the new defence partnership will act to defend their shared values of "freedom and democracy".

...............

Make no mistake this is being built to counter an insurgent China and counter their influence around the world.

fight against the Nazi Fascists. It's only logical that we'd remain allies in today's
fight against all the authoritarian Fascists.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The United States, Britain and Australia said on Wednesday they would establish a security partnership for the Indo-Pacific that will involve helping Australia acquire nuclear-powered submarines, as Chinese influence over the region grows.

Under the partnership, announced by President Joe Biden, British Prime Minster Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, the United States will provide Australia with the technology and capability to deploy nuclear-powered submarines, senior U.S. administration officials told reporters.

The three leaders outlined the deal in a three-way virtual announcement from each of their capitals.

"We all recognize the imperative of ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific for the long term," said Biden.

Morrison said the submarines would be built in Adelaide in close cooperation with the United States and United Kingdom. Australia will not be fielding nuclear weapons, he said.

"We will continue to meet all our nuclear non-proliferation obligations," he said.

And about the French.

The partnership looks likely to end Australia's attempts to have French shipbuilder Naval Group build it a new submarine fleet worth $40 billion to replace its more than two-decades-old Collins submarines, Australian media reported.

I'd like to see closer mutual defense ties with South Korea and Japan too. I'd absolutely love to see us help Taiwan as well, but that one is more loaded politically
