...Because he knew he could try to do these events...without any consequences or penalties..That is he couldtry and if he failed he would .....get away with what happened and the "try." Does he still get speaking fees?
Is he still interviewed. Does he have rallies? Large crowds cheering him? etc. etc. etc.
Well.......Was Trump right on this? Will there be some kind of penalty? (any kind?)

I guess trump will set the model for a new type of presidency.

(31,816 posts)There will be.
A day or two ago the FBI seized the phone of Kellye SoRelle - a Lawyers for Trump volunteer and the attorney for one of the white supremacist groups involved in 1/6. "Seditious Conspiracy".
I seriously have a great deal of faith in Merrick Garland's capabilities. We have gotten so used to AG's that are all about self-promotion and aggrandizement that we have forgotten what happens when one keeps their head down, does their job, leads their team . . .
And gets the American people results.
Why should the Justice Department tip off the scumbag traitor trump?

(31,816 posts)But my husband and I have a bet going about Ivanka and Jared.
He thinks Jared flipped on Trump - and I think Ivanka flipped on Jared to save her ass and her dad's. He 'just' a husband - those trumps are thick as thieves.
Again - just speculation.
But I think the core democratic party base is blood thirsty (black women - count me as one) and I want 'cruelty is the point' pain inflicted on that entire family, McCarthy, Jordan, Gaetz, Bobo, MTG, etc. etc.. Preferably next August - in time for the midterms.

Fact is the only way this doesn't happen again is if there are consequences. Not "slap on the wrist, you're a naughty boy" consequences, but real world consequences that have a real impact on these people.
I wish I believed that it would happen. I really do.
ON the other hand, if it does, I get to be super happily surprised!
wnylib
(21,433 posts)that Ivanka is more likely to flip on Jared than the idea that Jared would flip on Trump. I don't know that any of them have flipped, but if so, that's the more likely case.
Does your husband say what would motivate Jared to flip? He'd lose a lot if he did - wife, kids, grifting opportunities - and would need protection from retaliation.

(38,420 posts)we will find that Trump had a great deal of planning in the Jan 6 event. Why?...Because he felt he and his family
would ...."get away with it." (I don't think Trump cares about anyone else)

I just hope the consequences extend beyond the Trump crime family. I'd like to see all of their collaborators and accomplices topple like a row of dominoes.

(21,319 posts)Trump broke the law before he was president, then when he became president he knew he was above the law when he said he could kill someone and get away with it. He scoffed at norms that past presidents followed; didn't release his taxes, didn't divest his financial interests.
Trump will never see jail time.

(3,389 posts)His daddy always got him out of every mess he ever got into, his daddy knew he was extremely incompetent, but he was his preferred child because he was as evil as he, so trump-the-buffoon grew up in this fantasy world where he never suffered consequences. His dad, and Roy Cohn taught him how to circumvent the law, how to cheat, which already was a natural attribute in his flawed character. He has never had to suffer consequences, but he now got into something that was not his turf, and that is why this time I am convinced that he will pay because all those on top understand that if he doesn't pay Democracy will suffer, and that is too high a price to pay to let an odious character get away with all his crimes.

(38,420 posts)Proof that Donald Trump was behind some or all of what happened January 6..(with the help of his team )
....Yes, when that solid proof emerges, then, perhaps, there will be great consequences...You know...and I
must admit that the FBI is very good at getting proof of criminal intent ...Is that correct?...They are among
the best if not the VERY BEST!

(24,282 posts)all his life. Lots of people do that. It does surprise me that by this time , with all the shady foreign and domestic organized crime types he had dealt with and certainly at times not held up his end of the deal. someone hasn't just beaten the living shit out of him or tossed him out of a 20th story window.

We have a big problem if this insurrection does not out these treasonist SOBs behind bars, and I mean all of them including the financiers.

....Donald Trump will become a recluse like Nixon was.
....Donald Trump will lose his fortune..
...Donald Trump will be charged with some crimes..
...and more....a whole lot more..The FBI needs "TIME"
......Donald Trump's downfall will make Nixon's seem like a cake walk, or a 1/4 mile walk through your local park...
....and The FBI will get Trump...Donald Trump is the biggest crook around..

No, I'm not one of those "kinder, gentler" Democrats. The man is a blight on our society, and is responsible for death and misery on a massive scale.

So, if you don't think that the FBI is currently working on that one, you are entirely wrong...So, Giuliani gets a break
to testify against Trump..or maybe someone else...Maybe... whoever you can imagine....The FBI is great at getting
the lowers to testify against the bosses...just wait and see...We will see it all...Yes, we will...
.....We ain't seen all of it ...the "best is yet to come" can you imagine who?...hint...does Donald Trump have...
.....children?...Were they or individual children involved? Would the FBI go after children to get the big boss?
How about the former mayor of New York.?
.............................Well that last two: former Mayor of New York, and children......................
...................if you don't know the answer, you don't know how the FBI works...

(7,629 posts)If one was a suspicious person and didnt know any better, one might think there were a few trolls loose in here.
A defeatist attitude only benefits Trump and the Republican party. Theyd love to spread negativity and hopefully some contagious apathy throughout the Democratic Party and Independents in the hopes that some will just give up and wont vote.
The only way he wont pay for his crimes is if hes reelected somehow.

(9,291 posts)he couldnt leave the White House. He knows what he did, when everything failed, he threw the sink . He always thought he had the tough guys, even all the police. He might have had too many, but not enough, and why he allowed the fighting to continue for hours. He tried to steal it every way possible, not to serve this country, but to hide all his corruption.
