I am not a fan of giving celebrities any special weight in society. Minaj has talent in her field and has managed to attract a following based on that talent. The problem is that too many people see celebrities and athletes as somehow having talents outside their given field, which gives their message added importance.

Don't get me wrong. I do think it is good when people like George Clooney bring attention to problems such as those faced by people in South Sudan, or Matt Damon and his work addressing safe water access in Africa, The late Princess Diana with her work on landmines, etc... The problem is when celebrities use their platform to discredit scientific knowledge ala Jenny McCarthy and vaccines.
