Billy Graham urges Americans to vote for 'biblical values'

Charlotte, N.C. — Christian evangelist Billy Graham has taken out a full-page advertisement in more than a dozen newspapers in battleground states across the country, urging Americans to vote for biblical values on Election Day.

He goes on to say: "I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman. Vote for biblical values this November 6, and pray with me that America will remain one nation under God."

The advertisement comes after Graham, 93, and his son, Franklin Graham, met last week with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney who was in North Carolina for a campaign rally.

After that meeting, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association deleted an article from its website which lists Romney's religion, Mormonism, as well as others, as a cult.

Billy Graham made a point of offering his spiritual support to presidents of both parties, but disassociated himself from politics after Nixon used that support to suggest political endorsement. Since then, he's made a point of being apolitical, very much unlike his son. With the elder Graham being in his 90s, and in poor health for awhile, I wonder how "in touch" with the world he is anymore? I can easily imagine Franklin manipulating him into a Romney endorsement, without him really understanding what is going on.

I recall reading, perhaps 30 years ago, that Billy Graham believes he will not endure a physical death but instead get 'raptured' before that happens. As his own inevitable death becomes imminent, I wonder if he is still hoping for a last-minute 'flyaway?'
