It just shouldn't be this hard to pass legislation for the people who work hard, pay their taxes and take on the uniform and fight on the battle fields to protect us and to protect our "democracy." This 3.5 trillion is over ten years and puts much more back into the Federal coffers than any tax cut ever passed by the GOP.
We really need to work hard to get at least two more Senators who will work for the majority of US citizens.

(58,785 posts)bad deeds, including oxygen from the air. Nancy Pelosi's very existence is fuel. In fact, all women who don't know their places are a major fuel source. Fear and anger at the very ideas of equality and rights to pursuit of happiness for all turned underlies all that they do. They burn.

According to studies I've read about (whose findings have been replicated many times), most trumpist followers are very socially conservative and hostile toward women's equality. They have a strong tendency to fundamentalist religion, and most apparently did have authoritarian upbringings that stuck. These are the kind of people who'd keep showing up at their leaders' rallies even if he did leave them abandoned in the rain afterward.
The various militia types are very different in some ways, but most seem to share that strong social conservative hostility to women's equality and want to restore subjugation to men.
The viciously predatory form TX's latest antiabortion law takes reminded me of these findings and suggests that legislature's packed with these types, and almost certainly lead by even worse ones. I'm sure most of the worst would love to promise Pelosi they'd hang her if she showed up in their state.

(11,295 posts)The connection to 'insurrectionists' (if any) is incidental at best. And I found that part of the OP to be - puzzling, misguided. If you want to look at who is fueling that (dumpster) fire - IMO, you have to look in a LOT of other corners.

(146,286 posts)So far, he has voted with Biden 100% of the time. Would a Republican do that?

(42,862 posts)Without him, it would be a 51-49 split in the senate (two vote difference) and Mitch McConnell would be in charge. Is that what you want?
THANK GOD FOR JOE MANCHIN!

(5,555 posts)His concerns are paying for it (which is echoed by others) and allowing time for proper review of the bill, which is still being written and rewritten.
The bill should include tax increases (on the wealthy) to pay for it entirely.
There should also be enough time for detailed analysis of the entire bill. The ACA moved too fast and had/has several flaws, we are still tinkering with it years later.
If those two matters are addressed and he's finding new reasons to drag his feet, that would be an entirely different matter.

(9,971 posts)We need to add two more senators in 2022, but if Manchin refuses to vote for the Freedom to Vote Act, Republicans are most likely to use their new laws to throw out enough votes for them to win. Georgia is already working on Fulton County to unseat Warnock.
I dont get Manchin, either. He is already 74 and will not be up for reelection until 2024. Does he need another term so badly, which he is unlikely to win if he rejects the infrastructure bills that will help his state? He barely won reelection last time in a state that has been going further and further to the right. There is nothing in any of these bills that will hurt his voters. There is much that will help them. My only guess for his opposition to the $3.5 trillion bill is that he doesnt want to raise taxes on rich people needed to pay for it.

(42,862 posts)Are there any vulnerable REPUBLICAN Senators that you'd like to weaken and replace with Democrats? Attack them instead. Weaken them instead. Flip their seat instead. It serves no good purpose to kneecap and weaken Manchin among his own constituents.

(45,049 posts)I won't ask which Democrats that some would like to weaken and replace. It's on record.
