Commercials running for Sept 18 YMCA Idaho Potato Marathon while rationing care across state in all hospitals. Individuals standing on the street around government centers holding up signs wanting medical freedom and choice.
There will be a judgment day for leaders who shepherd the sheep over the edge of a cliff for your own political egotistical gain.

(21,330 posts)2 Trumpers were telling me about how terrible California was, full of Democrats. Now I know from experience that it is impossible to debate stupid so I just told them a story. I live in a small rural borough in central Pa. we always have a 4th of July parade. I told them about one parade back in the early 70's when our 2 state Reps., 1 a Republican, 1 a Democrat, rode in the parade in the same car.
The one Trumper said now they hate each other. I asked him why, he had no answer. I told him it is crazy to get so riled up over politics. I told him that his side wants him to hate people just because they are Democrats. I said back in the 70's our Republican Rep rode in the same car with our Democratic Rep., what changed? I said to him that if I hated Republicans I wouldn't have anybody to golf with today.

(40,209 posts)Republicans are on the wrong side of everything and then lash out at Democrats for pointing it out.
It takes a lot to look past it, maybe golf lets you do that!

(25,543 posts)Not every single Republican was pro war, and if they were questioning the Nixon doctrine, they were not completely ostracized by their peers in the party. The one thing Republicans always did in the old days was stick together no matter what. TFG however, made it impossible for certain Republicans to maintain their fealty to the party, and we Ive certainly seen a fair number desert the party since TFGs insanities became apparent.

(36,298 posts)It's probably a political impossibility to mandate COVID19 restrictions in that state. My guess is that when the death toll reaches an unkown level and more and more people can't get surgery to fix things like bone fractures, the citizens of Idaho will change their minds.
According to the below link, Idaho has one of the lowest fully vaccinated rates in the country. At 40% along with Wyoming, North Dakota, West Virginia and Alabama.

(11,302 posts)I think it's a matter of feckless politicians giving the voters what they want (or think they want). And that certainly isn't any kind of 'new.'
Will we look back on this as reckless and self destructive? Can there be any real doubt? But then - let's take a look at our (collective) record on climate change ...

(8,964 posts)My ID zip code in ID comprising SE Boise has a 70%+ full vaxx rate. Others elsewhere in the state are stalled in the low 20's. When push comes to shove, it won't make any difference whether individuals did the right thing or not, if and when the time comes for medical attention. Freedom without responsibility is a recipe for disaster.
