Rolling Stone: Dave Mustaine Rails Against Mask Mandates: 'This Is Called Tyranny'
“I just wanna tell you how great it is. Look around you, guys. Look to your right, look to your left, and look how wonderful this is. We’re all here together. We’re not in fucking bags. We’re not freaking out, and we’re not yelling at people, ‘Wear your fucking mask,’” Mustaine told the crowd of mandates (via Loudwire). “Listen, it starts with this kind of a sensation that we build right now. We feel together, we feel like strength in numbers. We feel like we are invincible. People will not be able to stop us.”
Mustaine has long aligned with right-wing politics and conspiracy theories, including his belief in the “birther movement” against President Barack Obama as well as his public declaration that the mass shooting in Aurora, California, was staged. Mustaine has also an unabashed fan of fellow conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
“The thing right now that’s going on is tyranny,” Mustaine told his fans Wednesday. “This is called tyranny. Look it up when you get home. And tyranny isn’t only in government. Tyranny right now is in the schools and tyranny is in the medical business. So, you guys look it up. We have the power, especially us metal fans, we have the power to change things.”

Also, when you are privileged and belong to the dominant culture, accountability can seem like oppression.
Here's the thing Dave. While your fans are likely as ignorant as you are, those of us who actually would go look up what "Tyranny" is, know that you are full of shit.
Tyranny relates to control by government or another entity with power over your life. It consists of the following characteristics, cruel, oppressive, unreasonable, and arbitrary.
Again, while I am sure that for you, having to wear a mask in public spaces where they is insufficient ventilation and you cannot safely keep your distance from others, is considered "oppressive" and because you believe in right wing lies, you see it as "arbitrary"; the reality is that what the public health officials are asking are NONE of those things. They are reasonable, well thought, least invasive, and compassionate methods of keeping the most people safe as possible during this pandemic.
Here is an example of actual tyranny: Being a trans person and not being allowed to live your authentic self because you can't use the bathroom of the gender you identify as, you can be fired at anytime just for being who you are. Society sees you as deviant and a child predator JUST FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE. That is tyranny.
Another example. You are a Black American. Simply by the color of your skin, you are determined to be dangerous and have criminal intent. It is assumed that if a crime is occurring anywhere in your vicinity, you are involved and likely guilty, even if you are the victim. Calling law enforcement, even as a victim, has a good chance of resulting in your arrest, physical violence, or even your death at the hands of law enforcement.
But yeah, health experts telling you to wear a cloth covering over your mouth and nose to prevent an easily contagious virus that has killed over 666,000 people in the last 19 months, that is tyranny.
