Colorado, Iowa, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
National polls are meaningless. And I actually think it's going to come down to 1 state:
Ohio.

But, we do have a broken system, and all Koch Brothers's Horses and ALL the Koch Brother's men... mean to put a dumb ass "in charge" again.
That's unacceptable, Ohio.

(706 posts)However Romney does need OH to win which gives President Obama a advantage. I'm sure President Obama has a back-up plan in case the GOP steal OH.

(9,841 posts)The Florida recount was bad enough. If we did away with the electoral college and the vote was close, we'd have to have a national recount. It would be a national disaster.

(36,222 posts)There is a group out there and some states have actually signed on to the legislation.....where if one person wins the popular vote, the state (no matter its result) will give its electoral college votes to the person who won the popular vote.
That way there is no need for a constitutional amendment to remove the electoral college.

(11,816 posts)Since even the looniest wingnut doesn't challenge the fact that in his first election, Bush lost the popular vote by half a million, and not a peep was heard from them about the evils of the electoral college.

(7,160 posts)watch and see. I am optimistic I don't think Romney will win anything near as big as the polls are showing or talking heads are saying. He won't win the popular vote the Evangelicals that are scared to death of Mormons won't vote neither will southerners who think he is an elitist, out of touch, rich guy

(9,033 posts)and then moving to a swing state, I can say I'm gratified that my vote finally means Something.
But it would be far better if Everybody's Vote meant Something.
OTOH, if we were to go to a national popular vote (which would take a constitutional amendment) I think national standards for vote-counting, paper ballots, etc. would also be necessary.

(4,854 posts)I live in Georgia and I matter. For the Democratic Party to throw us away as meaningless in an election is idiotic. 50 state strategy works for many reasons - not the least of which is the fact effective governing means having the citizens behind you and their elected representatives......and now that Pacs can raise unlimited cash there is no excuse to write of most of the country.

(391 posts)These eight states are not the only states needed to put Obama back into the White House
What would happen if California and New York Democrats didn't show up to vote because they don't matter? Same goes for the other states who historically vote Democratic.

(9,974 posts)Here in TX, the downticket Dem pols would likely frown upon that theory...Dallas County Dems, in particular, since they benefited greatly from TX Dem voters turning out in full force during the last couple national elections. And they turned out even though they knew that there was no way in hell TX as a whole would be going blue.
