Three women from Texas were taken into custody Thursday after they assaulted a New York City restaurant worker who asked them for proof of COVID-19 vaccination, police say.
Video obtained by WNBC shows a hostess at Carmines Italian Restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan being attacked by the women. The hostess had asked the Texas tourists for their vaccine proof, which is a part of New York Citys new protocols that recently went into effect.
The hostess stand nearly toppled over during the tussle outside the restaurant, video shows. The 22-year-old was punched and slapped but declined medical attention, WCBS reported.
A 44-year-old woman, her 21-year-old daughter, and a 49-year-old woman were apprehended at the scene, WABC reported. Their charges were not publicly disclosed.

(50,935 posts)the restaurant was full, it was just like pre-virus days, and I don't have to feel paranoid for the next two weeks because I was among people.
Some will say this incident means the vaccine rule is not good. I say, those three women wanted to make a scene about vaccines and they came to NYC to do it. They would have done it somewhere else if the restaurant rule wasn't in effect.
But the restaurants are full again, people can be with people again, and AT LAST we are treating the vaccinated like they are the normal people. We are excluding the unvaccinated. We are not all required to stop lives because some people are dumber than dirt.
It's a wonderful thing. I recommend it.

Total speculation, to be clear, but would kinda make some sense as a possible instigating factor
Perhaps we'll eventually find out more details.

(8,201 posts)The potential consequences for the restaurant worker go deeper than being punched and slapped--although in addition to the covid exposure concern, I can imagine how traumatized she is, and how hard it will be to ask the next person for their vaccination proof.
