Maskless San Francisco mayor bucks health order at nightclub

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) —
The mayor of San Francisco was spotted dancing and singing along to live music without a mask at an indoor nightclub, despite a strict order by her public health department that requires wearing masks at indoor establishments unless someone is actively eating or drinking.

Mayor London Breed, a Democrat, has promoted restrictive measures aimed at curbing the coronavirus, frustrating business owners who have had to shut down or limit customers. The San Francisco Chronicle reported the mayor was at the Black Cat nightclub Wednesday for an impromptu late night performance by two of the original three members of popular R&B act Tony! Toni! Toné!

August’s health order by San Francisco and other Bay Area counties requires people to wear “well-fitting mask indoors in public settings” regardless of vaccination status. The delta variant is so contagious that even inoculated people have been able to catch the virus and spread it to others. “Indoor settings, whether public or private, are higher risk for COVID-19 transmission, especially when you are with people you do not live with,” the Aug. 2 health order states.

Danielle Rabkin, owner of CrossFit Golden Gate gym and critic of the mayor’s policies, told NBC Bay Area affiliate KNTV-TV that Breed has consistently said that people need to do their part because of the continuing threat posed by the coronavirus. “San Francisco’s rules have been very restrictive, and I don’t see her playing her part.” Rabkin said.

Her office did not respond immediately on Friday to a request by The Associated Press to explain the mayor’s actions.

She got busted for something similar last year.

One law for the ruled, one law for the rulers.

This is partly why Newsom's polls looked the way they did over the summer. People hate this shit. Luckily for Newsom, Elder decided to go full Trump. Breed isn't as lucky. There are plenty of qualified Democrats willing to have a go at her.

And of course, way to give the Right and anti-maskers fodder, London. We all appreciate you "doing your part" in that one. It's now all over the media.

"No, I'm not going to sip and put my mask on, sip and put my mask on, sip and put my mask on, eat and put my mask on," Breed said. "While I'm eating and I'm drinking. I'm going to leave my mask off."

Pictures and videos show quite a bit more than eating and drinking. Dancing, singing, taking selfies with supporters. And it's hilarious, because her own mask mandates require exactly what she didn't feel like doing.

She needs to go already. Not only for this. She's just one of those politicians with lots of problems and severe entitlement about the position. It's about them - not the people. This is the person who threw an epic shit fit because she didn't get Harris' senate seat when Kamala became VP. She got a lot of blowback for that one, especially as Padilla is the state's first Latino U.S. Senator.

S.F. can do a lot better.

She was violating it.

When we ignore or excuse the wrong things our “leaders” do, we are no better than the other side.

I think we can cut her a little bit of slack.

The goal of such orders is to get MSOT people to comply.

But we all know that 100% compliance is not possible.

Besides. I really doubt the mayor of San Francisco would go out in public if she had Covid.

It's ok. Really.

These are the kinds of people I think we can be assured are trusting the science and taking COVID very seriously. We shouldn't let one photo be the judgement of them.

I think even if they appear to let their guard down in photos, they likely are vaccinated and asymptomatic, or maybe just sipping their beverages for a brief moment before properly re-masking to stop the spread.

People make mistakes and slip up. I'd happily vote for a Democratic candidate who made a mistake and apologized for it, over a right wing extremist any day.

What we need to do now is let the mayor know we have her back. Yeah she slipped up once, but it's infinitely better than racists who openly violate the scientifically proven mask mandates.

Jesus, stop giving them ammunition. Liberal Pols know they're being tracked specifically to create these scandals, and California even more specifically, yet they still fuck up.
