Conversation with a former Marine antivaxer on a bicycle ride

I said I was surprised since his military shot record was full of vaccinations that he was required to get. “I just don’t trust those on the corrupt Left.” I let that go.

There was a lot more, he said, a friend was in the ICU with Covid and most of the other patients were vaccinated. I said, “ I don’t believe it. That would violate HIIPA (however many letters) and most patients in ICU are chatting with each other.” He got offended that I called the “most honest person I know, a liar.”

It got really heated when he asked, “Do you think that you who are vaccination are more likely to get Covid from me who is not vaccinated.” That’s when I lost it, “That’s the stupidest effing bull shit I ever heard come out of someone’s mouth!”

I sprinted away and he decided to leave the group at the next turning. It was a a wasted effort I know, but it sure put some speed in my sprint.

Just had to vent.

Patients on ventilators (esp. covid pts.) do not lie around "chatting" with their neighbors!

I was a critical care RN and that just didn't happen. Even before covid.

Thanks for ranting!

4. I think he meant to say 'aren't chatting', and that's the OP talking is how I read it

Also “Do you think that you who are vaccination are more likely to get Covid from me who is not vaccinated.” ... not sure how that's bullshit. A vaccinated person IS more likely to get Covid from a non-vaxxed person ... vs. a vaxxed person.

11. You may not be active, but in my mind you are still a RN

I spent quite a lot of time haunting the halls and rooms of hospitals as an official part of a the pastoral care team. That’s when I put you men and women RNs up on the pedestal. The great majority were so kind, caring and competent that they push the few little NAZIs out of memory. (You always get some people like that).

Some of the very best were in ICU and CCU.

ICU patients are “chatting.” They are all on some form of O2 which makes it hard to talk and the vented ones are knocked out.

7. They are also not in a ward where they can all "chat".

Normally one to a room and in a real pinch two. The rooms are small and designed for one patient.

10. That's The Problem. EVERYONE "Knows Someone..." Or "Has A Friend Who..."

I had someone tell me they had a "friend who..." died of the COVID vaccine. I said that considering the fact that a grand total of THREE people have died as the result of getting the COVID vaccine, I found that assertion highly dubious.

13. You should have asked them the name of their friend.

Or, cite their sources of "someone said." Make 'em put up or shut up. I went through this with my idiot brother who was spouting a bullshit conspiracy about how COVID deaths get reported. When I asked where he was getting this nonsense, he said it was from his friend, who is the county coroner. When I asked where this guy got his medical degree, my brother quickly changed the subject. He didn't realize that I knew his friend was an undertaker, and not a pathologist or other medical professional. (Scary that some places have such low standards for their coroners.)

Granted, sometimes it's just easier to reply with, "I know someone who says you're full of shit. See how that works?"

He started in on the bullshit anti-vaxxer stuff and I ended the call. We aren't really friends anymore but he's had questionable mental health for years and I worry about him. He used to be a strong democratic supporter but part of his mental health issue is paranoia. The right is a fly strip to the paranoid. It's sad really.
