I don’t mind the coverage. For as awful as it is, it is a familiar occurrence in the media and how they cover it. After these last four years and covid the coverage feels like normal. No matter the problems we all know exist with it.

You know why Mexicans-Americans are "white"? It's politics.

Part of the Hidalgo treaty was that all Mexicans residing in the US would become US citizens, and the only way they could do that at the time is if they were "white". This was used by immigration way into the first half of the 20th Century. If you were "white", they would not deport you. Consequently, most Mexican-Americans put white on the race form. My husband's DNA is 50% Native American. The majority of Mexican-Americans are between 30 and 70% with most falling around 50%

Hubby puts "white" on every form, same with my kids. The real Native American community in the US is not too keen about Mexican-Americans using NA as a census identifier. That is because Native-American is a legal entity here in the US. Native American ancestry from non-US territories is not legally recognized in the US.

We really don't have a large Argentinian or Chilean population in the US. Yes, Argentinians and Chileans are mostly are European.

3. It is a compelling story...and most fear the heartbreak that is likely to come from it.

Having spent a lot of time in that area of the Tetons and western Wyoming and hiked some of those trails myself I know full well how likely it is that she might never be found.

And yes, I'm fully willing to acknowledge the sad truth that her being young, pretty, blonde, and white is going to give the story far more priority than perhaps for someone else. But, at this point, public help is likely going to be the only way this story is solved--if it is.

When I watched the body cam, I wonder why she was so upset and him so calm. I also question her copping to hitting him. He had a mark in his hand. He may have been a controlling abuser who told her what to say. So, I don’t think it is cut and dry she was the abuser. She may have been defending herself.

A bit of old and new. Missing woman, yes. But also, YouTube content creator. A travel video blogger who disappears on their travels.

There's a lot of details about the story that make it ready made for the media to latch onto. It has a built in audience. People love knowing what the latest YouTube drama is.

Mix in that the media are pretty lazy these days. If I read one more article or report that's merely the result of a "journalist" sitting on their ass in their home office and trawling around Twitter, Reddit, or Facebook . . .

I do more work getting groceries than half the Buzzfeed writers manage in a day.
