14. Generally I'm no fan of Andrew Jackson. Although he founded what is now our party.

He did make democracy available to the common man, however. Of course the common white man and no one else. Not defending the man for all his actions.

But he did strongly believe in democracy as it was in those days. Otherwise an awful man.

If he were president now Trump would have been hanged and in a grave already.

When South Carolina, his home state, was considering nullifying a federal law he threatened to take the army down there and hand the instigators from the first tree he found. Washington did the same.

I’m opposed to the death penalty in any form. But here’s my point.

The republicans know that with their current policies they are facing electoral defeat. They used to be the party of business but have become the party of the religious nuts. Even I’m surprised at the extent the religious nuts are willing to go to to support their world view.

We must be willing to take whatever measures necessary to preserve our democracy. Because most republicans have given up on it.
