I am lost for words. It was not Joes family who owned slaves. The GOPers are trying everything they can think of! If someone say that about Trump, well I hate to hear the repercussions from that? I had a distant relative who beheaded people in England in the 1800s, so I am bad person for that? Give me a break!
Of course, the story from Business Insider

(7,510 posts)Records from the 1850 Census and slave schedules also show that Biden's 3rd-great-grandfather, Thomas Randle, owned a 14-year-old male slave in Baltimore County, Maryland, Bannerman said, with the 1860 Census still showing Randle owning one person after the family moved to a different part of the county.

(115,686 posts)I am the descendant of Vikings, who infamously owned and trafficked in slaves, as well as of a family of smugglers and god knows how many other reprobates. I did not inherit those crimes. Many Americans had ancestors who owned slaves in this country, and very few of them are slavery advocates or apologists.

(14,966 posts)those women were happy independent contractors in a libertarian paradise and not de facto chattel, you are out of your goddamned mind. And the GOP has nothing to say about that matter, except to get righteously indignant if anyone brings it up. And as with a stopped clock, they happen to be right if only by accident of circumstances.
TFG is a repugnant piece of shit, but he has nothing to answer for when it comes to Frederick (Friedrich) Trump's actions. Answering for his own actions would be enough -- if anyone ever actually held him to account, that is.
And as it turns out, despite being only two generations of lineal descent apart TFG never personally knew his grandfather because -- and here's a little ironic Trump-virus tidbit -- he died from the 1918 flu pandemic.

(66,341 posts)If they knew their descendent was a far-left, pro-diversity, pro-civil rights, pro-LGBTQ, pro-socialism liberal, they'd turn over in their graves.
So the only question here is: So what about Joe Biden's ancestors?...

(34,195 posts)Someone did a history of my mother's ancestors.
One family living in Kentucky around 1820 owned three slaves
They never got around to checking my father's ancestors,
but he told us they were all horse thieves

(989 posts)Some on the right (and far left) tried to smear now-VP Harris by pointing out that she likely had white plantation owner ancestors on her father's side.
So what?

(10,136 posts)they didn't show up in the US until about 1890. My siblings like to claim that we're descended from a wealthy east European landowner, but I think it's more likely we're descended from his many serfs. The Constitution actually forbids corruption of blood -we're not responsible for the sins of our ancestors. If Biden's were slave-owners - well, they don't seem to have passed any of that wealth down to him.

It was prevalent enough in this country's past that it can be a challenge to NOT find a few slave owners among the numerous ancestors who lived on this land, pre-Civil War.

(1,969 posts)I mean he is actually only one of the few recent presidents whose family wealth can be tied to slavery. (Most recent ones are from post Civil War immigrants or northerners.)

The focus is more on the present that way.

(4,448 posts)A heartfelt apology from Biden would probably be a good boost to his approval numbers.
Maybe also make a donation to BLM.

(484 posts)90% of my ancestors are from the South starting around 1635. Some of them were slave owners. More than half of my great-grandfathers fought for the Confederacy (the others volunteered for the Union even though they lived in TN & TX). As much as it pains me to know about the slaves, its NOT.MY.FAULT!!!!!!!
What a ridiculous thing to go after Biden about, but idiotic misdirection is all the Repugnants have left.

(108,977 posts)who died in 1849, was a stonemason in Baltimore. Not likely to be a slave owner.
