Senate Republicans say they will vote to allow a debt default, leaving Democrats scrambling for plan to avert economic crisisLet me make it perfectly clear. The country must never default. The debt ceiling will need to be raised. But who does that depends on who the American people elect, McConnell told Punchbowl News on Tuesday, acknowledging he will vote for a policy outcome he says he doesnt want to occur.

(110,950 posts)Do Republicans care?
No.
They never cared for government to begin with.
Nor democracy. Nor the law. Nor our country.

(32,061 posts)"The debt ceiling will need to be raised. But who does that depends on who the American people elect. Translation: If you don't elect Republicans, we will allow the country to default (on the debts we rang up with our ta cuts for the wealthiest Americans.)

(7,128 posts)Now Biden and his entire staff should make it clear they WONT DO A DAMN THING TO APPEASE THEM.
Biden: Raise the debt ceiling, or what comes after is all on YOU! Im not going to do a damn thing!
The country goes into default then ITS ALL ON REPUBLICANS!! You want to know what life and the world is like in the dystopia that is Republican governing - well here it is conservatives!
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. - H. L. Mencken
(I know the sane arguments against it. I no longer care. This is the FOURTH time we have been through this crap and and the last 3 the Ds had to give something in return. No more. Let the shut hit the fan while pointing to Republicans and scream This is all on you!)

Negotiating with the creditors to take less money.
Dont forget that much of Americas debt is owned by Americans, not just the Chinese and other foreigners .

(5,279 posts)where the Democrats have to carve out a filibuster exemption (or blow it up outright) in the hopes that if he gets back in power he can further eliminate the filibuster and blame it on the Democrats.
It's basically what he did with judicial nominees.

(2,964 posts)I forget. If it is they need to change that. There are other workarounds as well. Minting a 1T coin or two would also take care of it.

(21,856 posts)then when it comes to paying their bills, renege on them. Typical republican behavior. And putting everyone else in harms' way for their stupid and childish games. Quit playing politics with our lives, quit being such d**kwads, and grow up. It's funny that you gripe and moan about debtors paying their bills in other settings (harming businesses etc. during the process), and yet when you do it, nothing's wrong. Having a debt ceiling should have never been established to begin with, since it seemingly seems to be a hot potato every time it reaches its limit, and the economy has expanded during the meantime, the federal receipts have increased (except the stupid and unneeded tax break of 2017)...

(135,632 posts)we haven't heard about the debt limit for the...let's say...the last four/five years.
