Microsoft bets on a future without passwords. Here's what you can expect.
Microsoft Corp. announced Wednesday that its customers can completely remove passwords from their accounts, a feature the company is touting as the next step in its "zero trust" approach to cybersecurity.
Instead of user-generated passwords, the longtime first line of cybersecurity defense, Microsoft users will be able to use biometrics, facial recognition, security keys or verification codes.
Vasu Jakkal, corporate vice president for Microsoft Security, Compliance and Identity, said the move will eliminate a security flaw caused by human nature. Because the way people use passwords makes them less secure.
"Our CISO (chief information security officer) Bret Arsenault says 'Hackers don't break in, they log in.' They're finding passwords, passwords are being sold on the dark web," Jakkal said. "And we as humans, we use the same passwords over and over again, we use easy passwords so they're easy to break in."

Or some just use password as their password or some other easily predictable one.
Biometrics is already in use on some platforms. I use my finger print to use my cell phone.
