I sent a text to my daughter the minute I'd learned of Ruth's death. We'd discussed her health and the ramifications of her death or retirement before Asshole45 could be replaced.

Our worst nightmare came true. We knew exactly what her passing meant, and how events would unfold from that moment on.

Of course Mitch McConnell didn't disappoint in his hypocrisy, and we stand at the precipice of Roe v. Wade being overturned.

There is hope that the religious right can be staved off one more time, but the path to overturning Roe is now a marked trail, and they won't stop until their very small minority overrules the majority's wishes.

We must draw one final line in the sand, and forbid them from ever crossing it again. There is no fall-back position from here.

Ruth would expect nothing less from us, and we owe it to her and the millions of other women upon whose shoulders we stand, to never allow Roe v. Wade to be overturned.

And all the other times in the past few decades when we expressed concern at the slow dismantling and chipping away at our rights, and just as with this, people called us hysterical? It just keeps happening. Drip, drip, drip.

Nobody is going to react with the appropriate alarm until people start disappearing overnight and we are being asked for our papers in the streets.
