(823 posts)But even if he does, the rethugs in Texas will pound that to death. All the social issues will not matter here and he will lose by 500k. This state is no where near as purple as folks are suggesting. With the new voter restrictions in effect it will make it even harder. Apathy by just 5% of dems will be enough to sink his candidacy.

(13,964 posts)but theres no harm in running a good candidate who could get close and make Texas even more competitive for Democrats in the future.

to see who could be the most absurd on the subject. Swalwell won with his nuke comment on Twitter. Using nukes to take guns would kill everyone, not just the ones with the guns you want to take. Hard to run a country that is under fallout. Everyone loses.
The idea of a mandatory buyback is even more absurd now that red states have flat stated they will ignore any ban on semi-autos. No sane Democrat would attempt to reason how it makes sense to allow police they protest for being abusive murderers to have guns they protest for only belonging on the battlefield in order to forcefully disarm citizens of their paid for and purchased property they have no intention of selling; especially at reduced prices.
The idea is a non-starter on its face.

(7,408 posts)The ads against him have already written themselves. Gotta remember Abbott won by 13% in 2018. I think Beto could narrow that though, Trump only won by 6% there in 2020.

Greg has gone too far to the right to try to win 2014 nomination. Too many Texans think that Texas is on the wrong rtack

(15,381 posts)Beto is good, but too liberal to win a statewide office. He's moved further to the left since his last statewide race against Cruz.
The poll in the OP shows only 25% of Texans are liberal, while 37% are conservative.

(21,558 posts)keep in mind just putting up a decent candidate doesn't cut it. As long as Sinema and Manchin refuse to allow the voter right act to take place, a Democrat probably needs about 60% support from the electorate to get elected in Texas to statewide office, and 50% on its own is damn near impossible.
He cooked his goose with that gun comment anyway.

(25,252 posts)So far, the only ones running are people that I have never heard of.
Name recognition matters
However, he has not announced and this article wreaks of speculation.
"Later this year"...means when???

(25,252 posts)This means nothing.
Almost everyone else who is running has already announced.
Why do we have to wait????
