so my doctor treated me over the phone and sent different pain meds to try to control it
was in severe pain from Wed-today. In reality, it could have been a perfed bowel but all he could do was call me every few hours to report on my status...fever, pain level and the like.
Good thing we have blood pressure, digital thermometer and pulse ox here to monitor
because of COVID I had to endure 4 days of excruciating pain when it could have just been in the hospital for a day-a quick CT to make sure it wasn't a perf and get pain relief
I FUCKING HATE COVID AND THE UNVAXXED

(16,486 posts)I take it for my eye disease, but also helps with lower GI flares. I do not have Crohn's, but I do feel better when I take it every 2 weeks as I am prescribed.

(184 posts)but he quickly built up the antibodies and has been on Humira for a long time. The only good thing about having multiple family members with Crohns is that when my daughter had a perforated bowel I knew immediately what it was and got her into the ER very quickly.
Having had to spend a LOT of time in ERs (Me and 2 of my kids have Crohn's and my husband was a professional cancer patient) I am very aware how important it is to get the right care at the right time in order to get the best possible outcomes. I have spent this COVID disaster living in constant fear and I firmly believe that my spouse would have lived longer if the healthcare system was not overburdened. We had to delay some treatments and although he had wonderful doctors, telehealth is not the same as in person care.

(13,311 posts)curious about taking Humira for eye disease. I take Humira for rheumatoid arthritis like you every two weeks. I do have glaucoma in one eye and was curious if you are taking it for that.

(16,486 posts)It helps in keeping my Retinas from swelling near the Optic nerve. Also helps with the Corneas as well. I was 32 when diagnosed with Macular Degeneration at the NIH in 1984.

(13,311 posts)and swelling underneath my retina for years. I unfortunately took steroids to control the uveitis and that caused the glaucoma in one eye. Folks with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis are prone to uveitis from what I have read. My rheumatologist switched me from Enbrel to Humira hoping it will help with the uveitis. So far so good.

my friend's BP won't go down no matter what the drugs. The primary dr referred him to a cardiologist. First appt.... after Thanksgiving. She said, "Sorry-- there's so many emergencies from Covid sufferers, everyone else has to wait."
I hope you are feeling better.

Time to triage the idiots to a tent.

(2,871 posts)Poor docs and other med staff that has to deal with this level of idiocy. And it really ticks me off these various pols and talking heads that just take the medical community for granted that no matter what stupid scenario they come up with to make themselves popular but avoid dealing with Covid realistically, the medical community and patients that should not have to endure additional pain and suffering will just put up with it.

(20,136 posts)Called 911. They came out, checked vitals. Seemed okay. Asked to transport me to hospital. No thank you. Neighbor buddy was with me and said c'mon we'll go to urgent care. Two very close by. First one the desk said we can't see you until Saturday. This was Thurs. evening. Huh??
2nd one I called from vehicle. No, sorry, blabety blah. URGENT CARE facilities. So neighbor brought me home, came over with a bag of antihistamine from Costco and stayed 1 1/2 hours to make sure I was okay. I gave him $$ for his service and attention.
I'm believing for you to be restored to perfect health regarding what's troubling you. Whatever it is, be brought to naught!
Safety, health and peace be unto you and yours. 💙

(46,576 posts)He checked it out this morning and decided to wait until next year. He needs to get in shape to run, anyway, but it was a concern that if he hurts himself, there may be a delay in care at the hospital. (Actually, that was my concern.) But also, after the game they all congregate at the bar for drinks and it doesn't look like anyone is following the mask requirement.
So, yes, our lives will continue to be put on hold as we wait for the unvaxxed to get on board.

(16,920 posts)a follow-up procedure he recommended from one I had done 6 months ago in March. Six months check-up is now in September, but 3 calls over 3 weeks and no call back. Its out patient, but still a hospital bed with light anasthesia. 🤷♀️
Hope youre on the mend! Get well.

(15,958 posts)Where I live (a purple county in a blue state), it's not nearly so bad. Cases started going up when Delta came to town, but we have a governor who wasn't afraid to bring back the mask mandate for indoor spaces, and we have a pretty high vaccine rate as well. Covid cases are still up compared to July, but nowhere near what they are in places like Texas, Florida, and all the other red states with loons for governors.
Of course, the farther south you go in this state, the redder it gets, the lower the vaxx rate is, and the worse the covid statistics are. Those areas are also more rural and much less densely populated, but the most densely populated (and bluest) part of the state (Chicago/Cook County and the so-called "collar counties" that surround it) has a much lower per capita rate of covid cases and deaths than some southern Illinois counties, which says a lot to me.
When I read about what's going on down south and in the northwest, I feel like I'm living on a different planet. My heart goes out to all of you who are having to deal with having your own health care needs neglected due to the unvaccinated hordes that are clogging up the health care system.

(15,958 posts)I have ibs that flares up from time to time. It's not fun, but I know it's a walk in the park compared to Crohns and UC, so I rarely complain. It's like dealing with a minor nuisance compared to a mortal enemy.

(80,700 posts)I think there should be a MASH-type tent set up outside the hospital for COVID patients who werent vaccinated.
Vaccinated? You get a room. You get into ICU. You get front-row treatment.
Not vaccinated? Fine. Meet us out front in the parking lot and well find you a place out there if theres a bed available.

(6,341 posts)My mom's glucose level got dangerously low, nothing we or the paramedics could turn it around. So she was sent to the ER and promptly taken care of. Thankfully.
But I'm in an area where there is a bit of agreement. All COVID patients go to one hospital as they get all the equipment, facilities, extra beds, tents if necessary, etc. The other gets the "routine" patients.
But in areas that only can support one hospital, thank God for technology.
