Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's (R) job performance rating has fallen sharply, according to a new poll that shows a majority of Texans now disapprove of him.
Forty-five percent of Texans approve of Abbott's performance as governor, while 54 percent say the state is headed in the wrong direction, according to the survey from The Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler.
Abbott's approval rating was at 59 percent prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed the lives of more than 60,000 people in the state, The Dallas Morning News noted.
These fatalities, coupled with Abbott's "right turn" and stance on hot-button issues such as abortion, the border wall, guns and COVID-19-related mandates, may have contributed to his falling ratings, according to the newspaper.

(778 posts)The most recent poll says 73% of Floridians disagree with his handling of the virus. When a reporter questioned him on it, he said that polls aren't accurate. Only thing is he says the opposite when he is in the lead. But will many still vote for him here? Unfortunately I think so. The latest poll.that I saw between him and another candidate was that he and Charlie Crist are tie and matching him with a couple of other candidates showed him winning.
It's good to see how Texas feels about their moRon.

(18,882 posts)Considering the year Texas has gone through, between people freezing to death, dying of heat stroke, massive numbers dying of COVID, and various other calamities, his approval numbers shouldn't be above 35%, if that.
There are still too many brainwashed, dyed-in-the-wool republican'ts in Texas, and I don't know if that will ever change.
Texas is considered a "purple" state now, but seeing it turn blue is almost an impossibility. The gerrymandering in Texas is strong, and without turning the Texas Statehouse blue - again, an impossibility - it will remain so.

(15,952 posts)I don't know if Beto can win or nort. Bbut IF he doesn't, it won't have anything to do with gerrymandering.

(18,882 posts)turning the Texas Legislature blue in order to make the voting districts more equitable for Democrats. Redraw the republican gerrymandered districts.
Maybe I didn't explain it very well when I said "statehouse".

If ever.

(14,153 posts)All his campaign has to do is gin up his base (or rather Trump's base) a couple months before the next election with doomsday warnings of a Democratic socialist takeover, complete with wide open borders for Mexican drug dealers and gangs running in to overtake Texas, annual mandated injections so Biden can track you, and maybe even turn you gay!!! And the old stand by, Democrats like Beto will take away your guns. Leaving you helpless when the Democratic Socialist army knocks on your door to take you away.
And most every daytime talk radio station, and TV station will exaggerate those claims further and add their own CPs into the mix for good measure. Republican voters are so so easy to scare and manipulate.
