I'll admit I have a few very minor qualms about this myself, but the concept of "education" is a broad one, and I betcha half these seniors already know more abut sex than their teachers, or the mayor.

(34,066 posts)(Senior year College Credit Plus writing class.) The prompts they choose to call out were the "juiciest.
Most were benign, and even the ones they called out could easily have been prompts from which scenes in any of the mystery books I've been reading could have been written.
The prosecutor pretty much laughed at the mayor. No charges will be filled.

(46,086 posts)What did the Mayor think they'd turn in? 50 Shades of Grey? Fannie Hill? Lady Chatterly's Lover?
Knowing how students write, I'd be thrilled if they wrote a cogent paragraph.

(34,066 posts)And this prompt, plus the follow-up (to rewrite it to one that you would show your parents) is exactly what I wish these students had had more practice with before they landed in my lap. And if he content is a bit racy get their attention, they might be interested enough to do a good job.

(42,862 posts)... for example, a woman fantasizing about being violently sexually abused by three men that would get published and haunt them the rest of their lives. But then again... it could be the beginnings of a retro black-and-white melodrama screenplay written in a pre-Hayes Code style, and starring a grand actress like Norma Shearer. I can easily see her over-acting and uttering these words: "You wanted me not as a woman, or a lover, or a friend, but as a submissive woman, or submissive friend, or submissive lover; and right now where my head is I balk at even the slightest suspicion of that kind of demand."
SHE WIPES HER TEARS AWAY. FADE TO BLACK.
EPILOGUE TEXT (SCROLLS ON SCREEN) "And they never again made love together (which they had each liked to do more than anything) or never ever saw each other one more time."
THE END (+ soft orchestral fanfare finale)

(42,862 posts)It sounded strange, so I did a quick google search. I found this in an essay headlined "Cancer, Disease and Society": "The manner in which you bring up your daughter with regard to sexual attitudes may very well determine whether or not she will develop breast cancer, among other things." "How much guilt, nervousness have you imbued in your daughter with regard to sex?"
The essay cites studies suggesting a relationship between "inhibited sexuality" and cancer risks. "In other words, did women who develop breast cancer have certain similar psychological traits which might lead one to see a connection between emotional health and cancer," the author wrote.
Fortunately, I also read that the science on this point is clear. "There is no relationship between stress or emotions, and 'getting' cancer," one expert said.

In order to take the class, parents of the children involved had to grant consent:
