From a persuasive standpoint, I think the republicans' campaign against the infrastructure bill is a loser.
I was clicking around news sites when I ran across a headline at The New York Post. It said, "McCarthy slams Dem plan: 'Its redistribution of wealth'."
I thought well now, isn't that just what we need! What is Kevin McCarthy doing? PR for the Democrats?
Opinion polls have long shown that republicans, independents, and Democrats think that the wealthy and the corporations need to pay their fair share. So WTF?
Wanting to post the story here, but not wanting to cite a sleazy source like the NY Post, I googled the headline and found something very interesting. You can check it yourself if you just take the headline "McCarthy slams Dem plan: 'Its redistribution of wealth' and put it in a search engine.
This story is pretty much appearing only in right wing media. Sources like (don't give them a click, please. I am only posting them for purposes of example):
--the patrioticretirementclub
--thedailytruthreport
--forbesalert
--rightreport
and many, many more. I never realized what a network of right winger disinfo sites they have going. Almost as prolific as their r-w hate radio network. As I skipped through the pages, I saw no reputable news sites with this story.
So having been a former PR person, what this means is that they devised this strategy angle of "redistribution of wealth," and they issued a press release on it to all of their r-w friendly sites. That is the reason it is all appearing at the same time and that the stories all pretty much read the same.
They have a second angle on this story, which strikes me as equally inept. It is "Rep. McCarthy slams Democrat spending plan as more than cost to win WWII."
From a PR standpoint, I think both these angles are misguided and quite frankly, kind of stupid.
The WWII comparison makes one think they are really hurting for a second angle. WWII? Really? WWII dollars compared to 2021 dollars?
So to sum up, I don't get their strategy on this. You can't tell me that they have internal polls showing that Americans don't want a redistribution of wealth because they do.
And the WWII thing is just bizarre.

(4,390 posts)Just so a lot of cream ends up in their power cups...that insurrection wasn't just ad lib grumpy tourists. And those awkward polls - there's plenty of fudge factors involved including social media influencers of cult culture who will pick it up and run with it for a moment of short-attention span gospel even before parsing "redistribution" that means jobs, fair pay checks, lower healthcare costs, and the pride one gets from saying "I live in an awesome well-governed community with people who care and work hard together to overcome obstacles to opportunity with each other and their environment."

(26,283 posts)would then pass it on to the rest of us in the form of jobs and better pay.
That however never happened and instead they have actually caused millions to fall into poverty because they did not raise peoples pay to keep up with even the cost of living and the jobs they created are actually overseas as they offshored more and more jobs.

They knew what it was and they didn't care.

Average people are more likely to believe the lies.
They don't even get that the rich guy isn't "giving" you a job, they need workers because people are spending money and creating economic activity. Heck, I learned that in high school econ class...which I don't think they have in schools anymore.

(32,079 posts)Because, that is what THEY have been doing for the past 50 years. They redistributed into the pockets of their wealthy donors. It sounds to me like another of their last gasps of desperation. The bill is popular, even among those in his party. And, the vast majority also want the ultra-wealthy to start paying their fair share. He's down to pulling shit out of his ass in an attempt to scare people out of their support.

It all went to the One Percenters, as the rest of us know.

(11,730 posts)There has always been media/press from every political persuasion, but after the fiasco of the Nixon administration and his resignation from office, right wingers vowed to not let it happen again. Nixon, Ailes, and Buchanan wanted to set up a GOPTv concept even before, but what happened to Nixon really catalyzed the situation.
Since then, right wing millionaires and billionaires have put forward a concerted effort to reshape the media landscape. They own many outlets in TV, radio, and internet. They almost always carry the same messaging, almost word for word.
It really has created an alternative to reality where many people get fact free propaganda.
We used to have discussions and disputes over the established facts, but now right wingers make stuff up so that we aren't even dealing with facts anymore. Right wingers who stay in their bubble can come out not even knowing what is really going on in the world.
