Mom desperate for justice months after missing daughter found shot to death in NYC car trunk

Four months after Destini Smothers was found dead and decomposing in the trunk of her car in Queens, her grieving mom has come to spend summer in the city in a last-ditch effort to find justice for her slain daughter.

Frustrated by a lack of information from the NYPD on the unsolved homicide, Loretta King has relocated from Binghamton to the Rockaways in Queens, where her daughter grew up, to search for answers in person.

“Since this whole thing’s been going on, NYPD has not reached out to me one time,” she said, her voice pained. “I called the detective and every time it’s, ‘Oh, he’s not in.’ I need to know where you’re at with this case, because it’s my daughter.”

An NYPD spokesman declined to discuss any specifics of the case with a Daily News reporter but said the investigation is active and ongoing with no arrests made.

For what it's worth. This article is from July and there hasn't been an update. A certain kind of white woman going missing is entertainment. The rest of them are the cost of doing business. And because of that, none of them really gets justice.

Even a white missing woman without a potential white male (spouse, partner, etc) aggressor won't get the headlines. It's about race, class, and the privilege of being "protected" in society if you tick the right boxes. It's the same way media lap up the trauma of white middle class people getting harassed at airports while ignoring the race and class profiling happening there every day. "But this isn't supposed to happen to US!!!"
