(11,738 posts)I think I will have to make another post saying how upset I am that you made a post and telling you that you shouldn't be upset at one particular aspect of the story.

(16,384 posts)If you dont like white people, or resent white people, just make that clear. No need to tap dance around it using media preferences as cover. I think most here are well enough informed on what POCs face in this country to be empathetic to that POV.

(9,073 posts)I don't get why the obvious isn't . . . obvious.
Here's the obvious:
The media are lazy. A charismatic couple with hours of video turn into a murder mystery. The suspect is with the suspected victim in hours of video. The suspect doesn't talk and goes missing. Meanwhile, on social media, where there are hours of video, the recipe for a viral story is potent. Because there is hours of video.
The media literally don't have to do any work here. Social media are poring over video, tracing around, etc. It's a murder mystery where everyone can be participant. Turns out, it seems one couple on social media did have the clues that lead to the body.
It's a highly interactive story. People are watching and analyzing every second of posted video hoping they will be the ones to spot that Scooby Doo clue and thus drive attention and traffic to themselves as our resident digital Sherlock.
I agree with the White Pretty Woman Missing aspect of cable news. But man, this was not the story to start lodging the complaint - and the complaints have grown nasty and almost inhuman (and kinda racist when some people aren't checking themselves).
There are a lot of reasons this became as big as it did. Mainly, that there were hours of video of suspect and victim and it was already built into social media. Of course it was going to be huge.
Hammers are out, but these nails aren't the nails you're looking for.

(1,587 posts)otherwise should maybe have another look at how social media influences the news. Or simply at the right wing nuts that the media choose to see as not being dangerous.

(24,285 posts)credit for giving about 48 hours of nonstop coverage to Tiger Woods' car accident.
Sarcasm because in their twisted judgement this probably made up for all the coverage they give to white people.
