For those not familiar with this show, Coronation Street is a serial drama (AKA Soap Opera) that's been airing for 60 years. I've been watching it, off and on since the 1970's and consistently since 1983. (Via the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Lately they've been running a whole lot of socially relevant story lines. This has been one of the best. The episodes air in Canada a few weeks behind those in the UK so this is very much an ongoing story line for me. I am pleasantly surprised and impressed that Speaker Pelosi has taken an interest.
US politician Nancy Pelosi visits Coronation Street to discuss Nina Lucas hate crime storyline
The meeting came as part of the G7 Speakers Conference, hosted by Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle who invited his global counterparts, including speaker of the House of Representatives in the US Nancy Pelosi, to visit the set of the famous soap to discuss its hate crime storyline.
Fans of the soap will remember the heartbreaking scenes featuring Nina Lucas and Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoin) as they were targeted in an unprovoked attack. Seb died from his injuries in hospital.
The actress, who plays Nina was joined by David, who plays Ninas uncle Roy Cropper, on set in Salford to talk about the award winning plot based on the real life murder of Sophie Lancaster in 2007.

I think Britbox and maybe Hulu. My Xfinity service carries the CBC and before that I'd catch really static filled episodes via an antenna and Channel 9 out of Windsor, Ontario.
One of the actors, William Roache, holds the world record for length of time playing the same character, Ken Barlow. He's been on the show since the very first episode that aired in December of 1960.

(26,255 posts)4. There have been some big stars who either once had a role, or requested to be cast
Sir Ian McKellen is an example. He asked to have a small part written for him. It was a grifting writer. Ben Kingsley was on the show, early in his career, as was Davy Jones, Cliff Richards, Joanna Lumley, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Robert Vaughn. The Queen is said to never miss an episode.
It's my 30 minute break from reality. Well, 60 minutes on Fridays.
