Mayor London Breed criticized by health experts for going maskless in S.F. club: 'lapse in judgment'

San Francisco Chronicle

Several public health experts criticized Mayor London Breed on Friday over images of her singing and dancing maskless in a live music venue this week — a violation of San Francisco’s indoor mask mandate.

The images, captured by The Chronicle and others at the Black Cat jazz and supper club in the Tenderloin on Wednesday, showed Breed singing and dancing without a mask while standing at her table. She and others were maskless even when they weren’t eating or drinking, which is not allowed under San Francisco’s health orders.

My thought has always been that women would be an agent of improvement for men's behaviors.

That having been outside the process for so long, there'd be no sense of entitlement. I was wrong.

We are more equal than we think, while not being equal.

... and therefore naturally better behaving. It meant women were/are not allowed to fail without lots of finger pointing from men.

I guarantee, for every Em Tee Greene, there's a Louie Freaking Gohmert, if not three.

I think it kind of condescending when people consider women more inherently 'nurturing' or 'ethical' than men. Any disproportionality in ethical lapses is probably due, as you point out, to greater scrutiny and/or opportunity derived from power.

The type or reproductive apparatus, or the gender a person identifies as has ZERO to do with how much of a hypocrite, asshole, or general scumbag they can be.

Not that I think Ms Breed is any of those, she's just a mayor of the rather flamboyant type San Franciscans love (until they don't). Now ol' Willie Brown would have been wearing a mask, but a $400 custom, perfectly tailored one, I bet

The mayor deflected criticism at a Friday news conference, insisting that she was nursing a drink when she started feeling the music. “I got up and started dancing because I was feeling the spirit and I wasn’t thinking about a mask.”

She also implied that adhering to the city’s mask mandate might not be necessary. “Make sure you are vaccinated because of the requirements, but don’t feel as though you have to be micromanaged about mask-wearing,” the mayor told reporters. “Like, we don’t need the fun police to come in and try and micromanage and tell us what we should or shouldn’t be doing.”

and because of that, I try to make sure I follow it at all times. How can I expect my students to follow the mandate if I refuse to do so? She should do better.
