To suggest the Biden administration is whipping refugees is beyond crazy.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-homeland-security-chief-heads-border-removal-migrant-camp-accelerates-2021-09-20/

CIUDAD ACUNA, Mexico, Sept 20 (Reuters) - The White House on Monday criticized the use of horse reins to threaten Haitian migrants after images circulated of a U.S. border guard on horseback charging at migrants near a riverside camp in Texas.

The mostly Haitian migrants in recent days have been crossing back and forth between Ciudad Acuna in Mexico and the sprawling camp across the border in Del Rio to buy food and water, which was in short supply on the U.S. side.

Reuters witnesses saw mounted officers wearing cowboy hats blocking the paths of migrants, and one officer unfurling a cord resembling a lariat, which he swung near a migrant's face. A video showing a border guard apparently threatening migrants with the cords was shared on social media.

"I don't think anyone seeing that footage would think it was acceptable or appropriate," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters.

in the Americas. They drove the French out in 1804, declared themselves independent, and founded the country. This, in turn, inspired many anti-slavery revolutionaries, including Nat Turner and John Brown. Jefferson worried of Haiti's uprising because they were the second successful revolution against European powers, following the US, and refused to recognize their statehood. Not hard to imagine he, knowing the glaring omission of his own revolution, feared successful slave revolts in the US, starting with his own plantation.

I haven't been following this story, but how did they get from Haiti to Mexico and then to the US border? Who paid for the cost of doing that? The immigrants didn't, a lot of them don't even have shoes.

I'd think that many of them have legit asylum claims - governmental chaos, political assassinations, massive natural disasters, poverty. If these were white people fleeing a similar situation, no way they wouldn't be treated differently.

Brace yourselves. With climate change refugees, it's going to get much much worse.

And I predict the US will slam the doors shut faster than everyone else. We didn't make nearly enough noise about the remain-in-Mexico policy. Have we reunited all of the families separated under #Traitor? That's gone weirdly silent after the first few family reunifications.

The next 10 years will see monstrous, draconian policies enforced far more harshly than some shitty riders on horseback (pretty surprising nobody fell off, or maybe they did)

Heads should be rolling. Everyone involved should be fired, including the higher ups. I don’t care what your stance on immigration is. We should adhere to treating people with decency. Kids in cages were not OK. Neither is chasing humans while riding horses and cracking whips at them. Heads should roll.

from the polices of the Biden Administration. The Administration has already condemned the whippings and has pledged to investigate. But I think their overall policy is sound. We just do not have the facilities necessary to care for a large hoard of undocumented immigrants from Haiti, and I think the best coarse of action is to send them back. All the while we should increase foreign aid and humanitarian assistance to Haiti.

I can follow the rein, from the bit hanging out of the left side of the horses mouth over his head with the free end dangling towards the Haitian. But if you see a whip, that says a lot about what you want to see, not what is actually happening.
